Just one of the best little restaurants in town.. This is my favorite place to go when we don't feel like cooking. I insist that Bossygirl needs to go back and try it again: that doesn't sound like Trattatoria to me.

Try the great beer with the excellent Pork Scallopini.

Some terrific Italian/Czech dishes, but bring earplugs and be patient. A friend and I just tried this small neighborhood restaurant and were very pleasantly surprised. My friend is from Germany, and she gave her stamp of approval to the schnitzel and apple strudel. In fact, the strudel was first rate. The ice cream wasn't, but we were in a forgiving mood. We loved the Bohemian potato pancakes, and I had a lovely salad. The choice of salads was more original than what you see on most menus and the ingredients were very fresh. However, I do have two pieces of cautionary advice for an otherwise top notch neighborhood restaurant: First, the noise level is off the charts. There is a tile floor, and the noise bounces off the surfaces and became deafening when two large groups came in. We sat in the front window and there was a speaker behind my head with the bass coming through from the Pub next door. I felt like I was having dinner inside a pinball machine. Couldn't wait to get out to the patio, where we enjoyed our strudel and relative quiet. Second suggestion--the owners need to spiff up the service. As mentioned in other reviews on this site, the service seems to be very uneven. The waitperson we had was more interested in talking to friends who were eating there than in turning in our order. We were a small table, and we got slow service. Otherwise, this was the best little place for dinner I've found since moving here from the Bay Area two years ago. Try it, and you will also be pleased.

Why didn't I try this place years ago. I've been living in East Sac since 2001 and I much have driven by La Trattoria Bohemia hundreds of times and thought "I need to try this place someday." Finally last night my girlfriend and I tried it and loved it. The food--we had the special: salmon with asparagus in dill sauce over homemade pasta--was fantastic, the service excellent and the atmosphere was comfortable. The wine list is modest but well rounded and they have a nice selection of European beer. It was a little pricey for an "I don't feel like cooking" night out, but would be perfect for a night when you feel like splurging.

Great Night Out. Started with the salmon potato pancakes and while I found it too heavy my boyfriend really liked it. I got the goulash with steak and red cabbage, all very good. He got cheese tortellini and he had a major case of food envy. Meaning go for the Czech dishes if it's your first time.

We got a beer (we forget the name, but it's the foreign/unrecognizeable one) and it was delicious!! I only wish it could be bought locally : (

Great service! We felt very loved.

Special dinner, memorable meal.. Good, basic meals were enjoyed by our entire dining party ranging in ages from 2 to 70. The kids split a pizza (which was delicious!) while the adults chose to try the goulash and schnitzel. The portion sizes were ample, and the food was so good we all pushed away from the table very satisfied! Dinner was followed by one of the best cups of coffee I've received at a cafe. Prices for entrees run around $14, so it isn't a place we can afford every week, but we will be back!

friendly, tasty. Of the many times I have eaten here, I have yet to try something on the menu. The menu looks great, but I have always been pulled away by the amazing specials. They are always excellent and very, very good. The wine selection is also quite nice.

Quaint and cozy, this little trattoria produces big flavors from Czechoslovakia and Italy.. The Scene

Situated along a quiet stretch of J Street, La Trattoria Bohemia packs in foodies from near and far with its unique cuisine and charming atmosphere. Autumn colors and dark wood lend warmth to the small restaurant.

The Food
This place breaks up the monotony that is the Sacramento dining scene by offering an array of traditional Czechoslovakian dishes. Schnitzel and goulash share the menu with classic Italian dishes like cheese tortellini and lasagna. A healthy portion of the menu is also devoted to pizza. You can get Italian food anywhere. Go for the Czech food. For starters, try the potato pancakes served with applesauce and sour cream, then move on to the beef goulash with dumplings. Goulash is basically a stew, but this ain't your mama's stew. The meat isn't chewy--it's tender and falls apart in your mouth--and the gravy is subtly flavored with onions. Finish with the best tiramisu in town.

unique experience. The food at La Trattoria is as unique and exquisit as the people you will meet eating there. It is always our first choice when my girlfriend has had a bad day. the staff, especially the Jerry, is first rate and the owners, Mark and Romana Lastuvka, are two of the nicest people to be found in the industry. overall a must visit for anyone in the neighborhood.

La Crap-oria. It certainly does not deserve to be featured in Sac Magazine's "Best Of." I was highly disappointed with my experience at La Trattoria Bohemia, to say the least. Firstly, you must have at least five other people in your party to get one of the three waitresses to pay any attention to you. After being seated and having asked for beers which never came my mother and I waited at least fifteen minutes watching them cater mostly to the two other big tables while 4-person tables received adequate service and the 2-person tables were just short of ignored. I had to get up and ask a waitress for the pints. The food was average and the prices were rediculous at $14 and up for entrees.

Unique, fun & delicious. My husband and I love it here. The service is excellent and genuinely frendly. We had an appetizer (some sort of potato cake) which was delicious. My husband ordered the goulash which includes red cabbage -- he says it's excellent. I ordered veggie pasta (which, I admit, could have been better, but this place caters more to meat eaters, so I expected my veggie to be on the "simple" side). My husband's red cabbage was so delicious I ordered a side for myself. I love it here.

Another thing: the restaurant actually takes reservations, which is hard to find in Sacto.
