The Skinny
This program lets young, nonprofessional musicians experience the realities of the music business. It's hard work, but a lot of fun, too.
The musicians are grouped with others of their skill level after an evaluation meeting, and then the groups get a chance to name themselves and write and arrange three songs. Over the course of the eight-week program, the participants will benefit from the experience of music professionals who lead seminars on topics such as songwriting, stage performance and business practices.
The program culminates with a concert. The bands each perform a three-song set for a live audience and are evaluated by professionals from various music fields for performance, songwriting and overall talent.
The grand prize? Winners cut a CD consisting of their three winning songs.
