Service problems persist.
I hadn't been here for a couple of years because of the service I had last time I was there. (They took my dinner order at the counter, made the food, and never got it to me.)
Tried it again 8/25/2011. They sat us on the patio. A few minutes the hostess brought us menus, water and bread, explaining that they were short on bussers. Then we became invisible. We waited over 20 mintues and no one took our order. I tried to get someone's attention and all the staff just looked past me. They weren't crowded.
So we walked across the street and had a great meal at Willie's instead. Matteo's in the same center is great as well. Or go to Bella Bru if you want to be left alone to think or use your laptop all evening.
Local restaurant needs some improvement. While the food is very good and the wait staff nice and accommodating, the chef is very very heavy handed with the salt. This has been mentioned several times, but to no avail. I can't imagine that most patrons want to consume so much sodium. Or maybe we have come to the wrong restaurant, which makes me sad as it is close to home and perfect for a weekly meal out close to home. We like to support local business and their owners/staff. I hope they like to accommodate customers who appreciate healthly and well prepared food.
Cinnamon Rolls. There was a time, about 5 years ago, that Bella Bru had THE BEST cinnamon rolls this side of Ashland, Oregon. Then they changed the recipe, and the cinnamon rolls since are only ordinary. Too bad. They had a great thing going, but then, it seems all good things eventually go away.
Not good at taking orders. I had been going to Bella Bru Carmichael on a somewhat regular basis, but then on two consecutive visits they messed up my to-go order. I didn't notice until I got home. (One time I ordered a chicken sandwich and got a cobb salad!) So then I started boycotting them. I thought I would give them a second chance after not going there for about 6 months. Well, tonight I ordered a sandwich and a cookie. I should have known better and checked the bag when it was handed to me, but the cookie was missing, which I didn't notice until I got home. If they had been swamped with business I would have been more understanding, but there were approximately 4 parties (3-4 people in each party), and 3-4 people working behind the counter. (This doesn't include those people working in the kitchen.) A business is only as good as its employees and it's unfortunate to say, but Bella Bru does not hire quality workers, and their attention to orders is poor.
The Real Deal. While the food is tasty, it is also over priced. The staff is pleasent but unmotivated and forlorne. It is impossible to talk with the owner because she is constantly berating the cashiers and cooks. But the foccacia bread is to die for!
