Kenmore Elite Energy Star fraud for LG fridges.
I bought a Kenmore Elite fridge in 2007, an Energy Star appliance built by LG. Later I got a letter from LG, it turns out they got their Energy Star rating pulled because of fraud, that the fridge uses way more electricity than that.
So they came out and replaced a circuit board saying it would use less power now. I found out later from the Sears repair guy, that the new board turns off the defrost heaters (thus using less power, at least at first). This fridge freezes food in the crisper drawers, plastic parts are breaking, the door seal is ripped, and now it won't make ice.
I've had the Sears guys out 3 times in the last couple weeks, they sold me a new ice maker, but not one cube of ice has been made. They told me that the sensor was broken, as it should make ice when it gets down to 19 degrees. But I find out myself that the icemaker area is 32 degrees! They didn't figure it out, I did. And it's because of the LG circuit board "fix" for the Energy Star fraud. My fridge is up to 50 degrees, not cold enough.
Sears doesn't want to talk about the Energy Star fraud, and LG only wants me to cash their $70 check that releases them of any further legal action. Really I feel like I'm out $2500, and Sears could care less. When a company sells a product that is fraud - I should get a refund.
