Mouthwatering Steaks at Buckhorn Steak
& Roadhouse.
I defy you to find a better steak, short of NY.
Superb, and great service too.
BEST STEAKHOUSE IN THE SACRAMENTO REGION. not only is the Buckhorn an outstanding restaurant.........they are also the best caterers in the Yolo county area.........their "Tri-Tip" is to die for!
If you find a better steakhouse tell me.. This is seriously the best steakhouse I have ever been to, they have better steaks than you could get in San Francisco or NYC and is definitely worth the trip from anywhere. The ambience is great, the service is the best that I have had eating anywhere (college student and we usually get crap) and i definitely awarded them for it. Bottom line, not only is this the best steakhouse around it is also the best deal around.

The best Steakhouse BAR NONE! I have tried just about everything on the menu, and I haven't been dissapointed yet, although I highly recommend their Tri Tip dinner. The portions are huge and savory. Also one to try is their award winning mushroom soup. The soup is very rich, made with real cream and mushrooms. This can be a great meal by itself or as an accompanyment to their entres. Note that this soup is usually served on Saturdays, so plan accordingly.
I can't say enough about thier staff. I held my wedding rehearsal dinner here on a Thursday and even though the Mushroom soup is reserved for Saturdays, they went ahead with my special request and served our guests this delicious treat. Everyone raved!
Great place for families as well as couples, and business appointements. Kudos Buckhorn!!
The best steak....ever!.
I absolutely LOVE the Buckhorn. The Taylor Cut steak is a must...it's a steak wrapped in apple wood smoked bacon...so good I wish I was eating there now. The garlic mashed potatoes are also a must as well as the green beans.
The drinks in the bar are also great as well as the service.
Also, if you are ever in Davis on Wednesday nights, you must go to the farmers market to get a Big Buck sandwich with grilled onions at the Buckhorn stand. I honestly can't say enough about the Buckhorn. It's fantastic!
Simply the best. The Buckhorn is relly the best steakhouse I have ever been to and I travel a lot. The Cajun Rib-eye is a must have along with the Baseball Sirloin. Make sure you go on a Saturday night for the cream of Mushroom soup, too. And ask for Celeste as your waitress... she has great energy and gives the best service!
The Buckhorn Rocks. I live in Winters now, but used to live in San Diego. The Char Roasted Tri Tip Sirloin is so addictive that I would end up driving 600 miles with friends to eat at the Buckhorn on a long weekend! Fantastic steaks, prime rib, seafood. The staff is great, it shows that they LOVE working there. Make reservations!!!!
A Diamond in the Rough.
This is probably the best Steakhouse in Northern California. The steaks are generally cooked spot on, the flavor is very rich. For the weaker at heart request a table in the DeVilbiss room. It is in the back past the bar, but it has a Victorian motif and is completely lacking in stuffed animal heads.
The cost overall is more in line with the traditional chain steakhouses rather than the more upscale ala carte ones, but the quality of food is excellent.
Reservations are a must on weekend nights and holidays.
The choicest cuts of meat are char-broiled to juicy perfection; vegetarians stay away..
The Scene
One couldn't begin to talk about the Buckhorn without mentioning the animal heads. They form a glassy-eyed ring around the tables. But the Buckhorn isn't just a giant trophy case. Located at the foot of the de Vilbiss Hotel in historic downtown Winters, it's homey, loud and considered a meat lover's paradise.
The Food
When a renowned steakhouse like the Buckhorn, which serves only Certified Angus Beef, is first encountered, there's a tendency to stampede straight for the prime rib. If you can rein yourself in, we recommend starting with the fire-roasted artichoke, served herb roasted with tarragon aioli. Meanwhile, the sirloin steak rimmed with apple wood smoked bacon is a succulent house specialty that cuts like butter. There's also lamb, pork ribs and an entire seafood section to negotiate. Then again, the prime rib is no shrinking violet.
spicy and rare. The Buckhorn is worth the 30 to 40 minute drive from Sacramento. It's especially fun at Christmas when all the stuffed animal heads in the bar wear Santa caps, from the smallest quail to the moose.
