Great for Vietnamese-food virgins, this place is heavy on authenticity and sheer flavor..
The Scene
This is definitely not a fancy place--it's basically a bare-bones diner with lots of formica, and little has been done to make the interior attractive.
The Food
What this place lacks in style, it makes up in the food and then some. The most popular selections, especially for families, are the "cook at your table" entree extravaganzas like the shrimp, beef and calamari grilled on an iron plate. Diners essentially do the "grilling" themselves, but it's a lot of fun, especially for kids. The cooked items are accompanied by lettuce, herbs, mint leaves, assorted vegetables and rice papers and fish sauce, so it's sort of like building a Vietnamese taco. Other cook-your-own selections include seafood fondue soup and Saigon shrimp and beef flame.
What to Order
The sauteed shrimp and chicken with Thai saute sauce and the combination meats sauteed in pineapple sauce, both listed as "chef's specials."
