A feast for the eyes and soul, this park is the ideal spot to stroll while soaking up California sunshine..
The Scene
Visitors and state workers stroll through the 40 acres of the California State Capitol's surrounding gardens admiring the foliage and feeding the squirrels. Viewed as a virtual oasis in the heart of the concrete desert, the lush green park is host to thousands of tourists each year as well as some of the most beautiful roses and trees around.
The Crowd
State workers and private sector employees alike flock to the park by the hundreds for a break from their cubicle walls. While the lunch hour is the most obvious time, men and women in navy suits and white Nikes can be seen powerwalking throughout the day. Also, summer is the height of tourist season in Sacramento. You can usually recognize the sightseers by their cameras, kids, sun visors and cut-offs.
Beautiful and well maintained. I was so impressed on my recent visit to Sacramento by the spacious and colorful Capitol Park. We strolled down the sidewalks and appreciated the many memorials and momuments, the variety of trees and flowers, and the majestic atmosphere of the tall palms that line the path to the capitol itself. (I'm confused, however, why Citysearch is asking me to rate food, variety of dishes, service and caterers as I rate this city attraction. Hello?)
Very beautiful, great landscape.. Capitol Park is very beautiful, they have every tree from around the world planted there. Lush grasses, awesome architecture, and squirrels galore! Extremely recommended!
