Editorial Review for Super 8 – by Robyn Galbos
In Short
The first Super 8 opened in Aberdeen, S.D., in 1974, charging $8.88 a night. Today, the national franchise, with its familiar red-and-yellow sign, still stands for dependable rooms at wallet-friendly prices. A staple for road-tripping families, truck drivers and tour groups, the motel offers complimentary morning coffee and continental breakfasts. Another perk for travelers: Super 8 travel cups may be refilled for free at any of the motel's locations.

I stay in hotel's more than I stay at home. Typically I use priceline or call a Hilton brand hotel directly. This time I used hotwire for the first time, because of their claim to give you half the price. However, when I accepted 2.5 stars in Sacramento, I got the Super 8 Motel. I was disappointed because I had been told it would be a Courtyard by Marriott or an Amerisuites type hotel- real 2.5 star hotels. I called Hotwire right away; they told me I had to call when I arrived to make a complaint. Like I figured when I arrived, it is a motel in a not so nice area under the highway. The guy working at Super 8 was so kind and made me fill welcome. I even realized that it would have been less expensive to walk in and pay then go with Hotwire. They have AAA discounts too! Beside the area and the rooms facing outside, the motel is newly built and the rooms are clean and decent for a tiny suite. Nothing says 2.5 star, but for the WALK IN rate it is nice. Super 8 includes a complimentary breakfast and free internet. In conclusion, never buy a hotel from Hotwire and I DO recommend the Super 8 Executive Suites for the budgeted traveler.
