This Place was Aweful. We walk in at 5pm exactly and some bartender/waitress tells us that they are not quite open yet and that we have to wait, they imply that we should have had a reservations (why would we think such a thing). We waited, at least, an additional 20min for them to get it together. Once we sat down we got cold bread and were told that they were running out of bread and that the two bowls of bread (for 10 people) was all we would get. 10 min later she finally came back and took our order. Some lady came to tell us that they were catching up with the orders and they were almost done with ours (how are you catching up if were were the first table?!?!!?) The food came 45mins later. DO NOT get the small plate portions, you will be disappointed. However, if you plan on eating right after go for it, we did. The entire time we were there the waitress came by like 4 times, not one time was to see if we needed anything. The checks came about 20 mins after we were done eating. The service was really poor. The prices were obnoxious for the portions and taste. After we left we immediately went to Luigi's By the Slice to get real Italian eats. :-)

So So Food. I was looking forward to eating at this place for awhile. The atmosphere is nice and casual, but I found the food to be variable and the service below average. I started off with Tuscan Bean Soup- it was so bland and the beans were hard and not fully cooked. I couldn't even eat it, it was so terrible. The caesar salad was good and authentic however, which is hard to find. The bread and spaghetti were also good. So I left with rather mixed feelings about the place. The service wasn't great, so if you need to come in for a weekday lunch you may not want to risk running late to work.

A little disapointed..... My husband and I recently ate here on a Friday evening. Here are my thoughts:

Starter: Calamari 7/10 Not too bad, not amazing.

Salad: Baked Goat Cheese with mixed greens 7/10 Pretty good. Nothing amazing.

Entrees: Spinach Ravioli in the brown butter and sage sauce. 5/10

The taste wasn't particularly bad, but the sauce was very thin. It was almost as if too much liquid had been added becauce they were low on sauce. It was also a little bit rubbery and cold.

New York Strip Steak: 6/10

Just your basic steak. Nothing special.

Service: 7/10 Very s-l-o-w.... We weren't in a hurry so it wasn't that big of a deal but there was a good 20 minutes between finishing our meal to getting our check.

Also, just FYI, if you sit outdoors, the patio just has those plastic lawn chairs (like $3.00 at Walmart). We didn't care but if you are hoping for a romantic date spot, perhaps not the ambiance you were going for.

Overall: 6/10 Probably not going back any time soon.

Great Friday Night Spot. We originally discovered the smells of this place on a Second Saturday art walk. We weren't hungry, but the smell from the kitchen was keeping us around the art gallery that's down the ally. We decided to have dinner there on a Friday night. At the table, we tried a little of everything that the rest of our party had ordered, and it was all delicious. The spinich ravioli had just enough sauce to compliment the dish (they weren't swimming in sauce, but not dry either). The HUGE meatball had an awesome blend of Italy and California (pinenuts in a meatball?). The Gnocchi was as good as everyone had told up it was (and it is one of their signiture dishes). But the Veal Saltimboca was out of this world (layers of veal, procuitto, cheese and sage in a burgandy sauce). Best polenta I've ever had! Lovely atmosphere, freindly staff, knowledgable bartender, we'll definitly be back.

What We Were Looking For. My wife and I just moved to Sacramento from the Bay Area so we're in the process of finding all our new favorite restaurants. A decent trattoria with good food, friendly service, and a neighborly ambience was near the top of the list and I think we found at least one at Michelangelo's.

Adorable, good food, great service. Michelangelo is one of my favorite places in Sacramento. Adorable place with lots of character, friendly attentive waitstaff. The food never dissapoints - and the gnocchi is some of the best I've ever had. We like it so much, we soon found ourselves to be recognized as regulars! Would definitely recommend if you want good italian food in a smaller more intimate setting (although not necessarily romantic - the place is brightly lit).

out of their leauge. Quite simply for the service , food quality and food quanitity the prices at this place are out of their leauge.

We went expecting a special evening and were prepared to pay the price for the value of a fine meal and experience , but neither were forthcoming.

The salmon bruchetta was dry and listless ,the warm goat cheese salad had just a small pod of warm goat cheese nad the veal piccatta were small, overdone,and there were no capers in the caper cream sauce.

The waiter took so long to return to the table after bringing the entrees that we decided to skip even looking at the desert menu-this place was an overall let down and we will not return.

This cozy little trattoria brings flavorful food, fine wine and art to an otherwise quiet downtown locale.. The Scene
The interior exudes a quaint, comfortable feel with faux rustic walls and murals of the Italian countryside. Pictures from the Barton Gallery adorn the walls, and the tables, candleholders and one-of-a-kind ceramic dishes are works of art in themselves (they can be purchased or special-ordered upon request).

The Food
The menu, although not large, offers a variety of dishes and authentic Italian flavors. Pasta selections are abundant, but there are a few meat and seafood dishes from which to choose, like New York steak marinated in a rosemary wine sauce. For starters, try the polenta served in a garlicky gravy, or sample the large bruschetta toasts piled high with marinated tomatoes, basil and goat cheese. The most popular entree is the spinach ravioli with a brown-butter sage sauce. Another favorite is Michelangelo's signature, old-fashioned spaghetti and meatballs.

Nominee? Why not winner?. I find Michelangelo's resturaunt to be one of the best in the world being an avid traveler. Granted thier selection is not large, they still provide heaping platefulls of food to devour and it is as always divine. In addition you can always request something that is not on the menu, for instance raviolli in tomato sauce. And so while I agree Biba is great it is probably more so for its ritzy apeal than its ambience and food
