The Scene – Nestled in the lower level of the exquisite Sterling Hotel, this romantic spot is an ideal place for couples to dine by candlelight. When weather permits, the enclosed patio is a lovely outdoor dining choice, with a trickling fountain providing soothing background noise. The doting waitstaff provide excellent service. – – The Food – Flavors and presentation are top-rate. The double-cut Australian lamb chops are enhanced with flavorful minted garlic sauce that perfectly complements the garlic mashed potatoes and baby veggies. The seafood ravioli is filled…
Worst service I have experienced anywhere
by norcalfoodie
The food was good, but the service was horrible. Four of us sat at our table for 15 minutes before receiving water. the waitress opened our wine (brought from home) and then set the bottle on the table without pouring any wine or asking us if we wanted the wine poured. Every other restaurant pours your wine after opening, and then proceeds to refill your glass throughout the night. We ended up being in the restaurant for 3 hours for a four course meal (appetizer, salad, entree, dessert). During that time, we did not get a refill on water despite asking 5 times. When we asked at the time our salads were being served, a member in our party has their empty glass laying sideways on the table which should have given the busser and waitress another clue. We also asked for more brad numerous times, but only received an additional piece of bread once- right when we got our entree. I thought the food was good, though a diner in our party said that anything would have been good after we had to wait so long to receive our entree's.
This special night out was definitely a disaster due to the lack of service by the entire waitstaff of Chanterelle. We had to alter our post-dinner plans because we were there for such a long time.
I worked in multiple restaurants through college and grad school, and would have been fired in an instant for providing this type of service.
There are a lot of other restaurants in Sacramento with comparable food at comparable prices that provide amazing service and actually refill your water. Based on our experience, I would not recommend anyone dining at Chanterelle.

Not fine dining
by lawlady04
I specifically joined citysearch because chanterelle is not fine dining that I expected. First of all, the server took fifteen minutes to take our drink orders. Second of all, the atmosphere is not nice. Third of all, the cocktails were $9.50. I was confused at the cocktail price as this is not LA or NY. I would never recomment this place. The food was good but not worth what we paid.
One little step above Sizzler

Borderline gross. Is not fine dining. The server we had was very nice but the food was fried, salty and overcooked. The description of the dishes did not indicate that the food was fried but it was. Not worth the money and barely better than going to a chain restaurant in regards to the food. The atmosphere and the service is good but not good enough to cover the fact that the food is almost inedible.
- Pros: Service, Atmosphere
- Cons: FOOD.
