The Scene – Once a riverboat shuttling passengers between San Francisco and Sacramento, this floating hotel is now permanently docked in Sacramento as one of the city's more nostalgic hotels. Like the Delta Queen, its sister hotel moored on the Mississippi River, an onboard stay conjures images of Mark Twain and the romance of the Wild West. The deck-level Pilothouse restaurant offers excellent outdoor dining, and a complimentary continental breakfast is included in the hotel's price. – – The Details – The 44 larger-than-average State Rooms are furnished with a queen…

Poor Customer Service, Non-responsive Management

by girvacj

Unfortunately my second stay with this hotel was not as good an experience as I had 3 years ago when I stayed there. I was double charged for my room and management was not responsive. When I arrived at check-in I was told they could not find my reservation but they had a room so it was not a problem. I told the clerk at that point that I had AAA and what the rate was quoted. He assured me that they would honor that so I took the room (They gave us the room right in the Lobby hallway, lots of lobby noise throughout the evening.) Upon check out I had been charged the standard rate not the AAA discount I had reserved originally - the clerk at that time did give me the 10% AAA discount but that was still $20 higher than I had reserved the room for originally. I didn't have time to argue so I paid it. In a few weeks I checked my credit card statements to find that not only was I charged upon check-out but I had also been charged for my original reservation as if I was a No-Show. Unfortunately at check-out I paid with a different credit card than my original reservation, which was completely confusing to the Accounting Clerk I called to speak to. After no luck with her I emailed the Manager - he also could not comprehend that I had been charged on 2 different credit cards and requested I send him both statements. I did as he requested and never heard from him again after 3 additional emails and 2 phone calls to him asking for resolution. I finally gave up and sent all the correspondence I had with the hotel over to the Credit Card company and they removed the "no show" charge from my account. I would not recommend this hotel, not due to the mix up on the overcharge because these things happen sometimes but, due to the fact that the Management never had the courtesy to follow up on the matter.

Nice hotel, awful guest services

by michelinegolden

Recently my daughter and I stayed at the Delta King. We were on the City View side of the boat. This was a special trip for my daughter's birthday and included a stay on the Delta King. My husband and I have stayed there a number of times before and it has always been a great experience. This time was quite another story.

We returned to the hotel around 7 p.m. and spent an hour or so sitting on the deck watching the boats go by. Around 8:30 we returned to our room for an evening of relaxation and some television. Unfortunately, the evening was anything but relaxing.

At nearly 9:30 a DJ began to play so loud outside our room that it sounded like we were in the bar. I called the front desk and the clerk told me they would be playing until 10:30 p.m. for a high school reunion. The DJ was evidently on the platform next to the boat, just outside our room. The music was so loud that we could not hear the television in the room, even with the sound turned all the way up. As a result, we listened to a LOUD selection of music from the 1980's all evening. We couldn't go to sleep, watch television or anything else with the music booming into the room.

At 10:30 p.m. when the music DIDN'T stop, I once again called the front desk. The clerk said she would contact the manager. She called back to say the manager said the group had a contract until 11 p.m. and wouldn't be shutting down until that time.

I certainly hope the Dixon High School Class of 1986 generated a great deal of income for the hotel because it was quite clear that they were far more important to Delta King management than were their guests for the evening.

I spoke to the people at the front desk when we checked out, and contacted the general manager, assistant manager and hotel manager immediately after my stay. I received no response from any of them.

There is a lovely Embassy Suites just a block away. I would recommend staying there rather than on the Delta King.

Christmas Party

by shelby1010

We were at the Delta King last weekend for our company christmas party and everything was perfect. It was the best company party I have ever been to. The outside of the boat is decorated for the holidays with garland and red bows and the hotel and banquet rooms are very festive.

The rooms are so cute! There was a turndown service with romantic lighting and chocolates. I can recommend the Delta King without hesitation.

  • Pros: Very attractive rooms, Old Sacramento, Friendly staff
