The History
Founded in 1972 by students at Sacramento State University and named for Jose Guadalupe Posada, an influential Mexican artist, La Raza Galeria Posada sponsors art exhibitions, workshops, a literary arts program, a film festival and numerous community outreach projects. Other special events include a ceremony for Dia de los Muertos(Day of the Dead) and a Christmas Art Mercado(Market).
The Scene
Housed in the stunning 1881 Heilbron Mansion (available for receptions and events), the Galeria also has a bookstore, which features an impressive array of literature, crafts and music. From the wealth of Victorian-era architectural details on the outside of the building, to the bounty of artistic talent and passionate activism on display inside, La Raza Galeria Posada is an important community resourceand a terrific place in which to spend a few hours.
