Sacramento's Best Kept Secret. This is a great museum! My kids and I really enjoyed the activities. There is something new and interesting around every corner. We especially loved the Underground Tours! We'll be back!
Sacramento's heritage at your fingertips..
The Scene
This museum is a bit like your grandma's attic, filled to the rafters with fascinating relics from the past. Everywhere you turn is something interesting. Generally, families and children on field trips frequent the museum, but the occasional lone history junkie can be seen wandering through too.
The Collection
Just inside the front door is a chunk of gold behind glass and the terra-cotta front facade of the old Sacramento Bee building, saved before wrecking crews leveled the newspaper's old abode. The Bee facade houses a functioning print shop. Off to the left is a collection of agricultural equipment and goods from the Sacramento Valley's farming past. Upstairs are decade-by-decade displays that show history in the making--from the coming of electricity to war to cars to television. Like the much larger Smithsonian, it's a collection of our artifacts; unlike the Smithsonian, it's a lot closer.
