The beautiful rotunda and marble floors highlight this stately building..
Overview
The Capitol building can inspire awe in visitors and a sense of pride in its triumphant reconstruction. In the early '70s workers discovered the 1869 building was vulnerable to earthquakes, and it was meticulously recreated using old documents and pictures.
The Experience
Visitors can take a guided tour with the groups that start every hour. The showstopper is the 120-foot high rotunda dome. The 1906 marble mosaic floor is another wonder. Every hallway holds something interesting, whether it's a temporary exhibit on the missions of California or the exquisite fixtures that adorn the walls. View vintage cabinet offices, the legislative chambers and the governor's official portraits.
