The Scene
The wrought iron bars out front and the hanging plants peppering the bar and dining area seem out of place for an up-and-coming rock venue. After dinner Wednesday through Saturday, the tables and chairs disappear from a corner to make room for some of the best bands Sacramento has to offer. The low ceilings give it a cozy feeling, despite its size, and the sound is always good.

Who's There
Carnivores, when the steaks are getting served up. Then, scenesters following the hip local music. This is the place to run into your favorite musician doing shots on the next bar stool and find out who the cool kids are.

The Music
Rock, punk and reggae bands. Also, DJs and poets take the stage... er, the corner, that is.

With the door to the kitchen open, I witnessed our waitress making our salads. They were part of The Distillery's legendary French Dip meal, but in this case, I think it will be the last one for me. As I was seated facing the kitchen, I noticed that the door to the kitchen was open and I watched the waitress reach into a bucket of lettuce with her own hands, grab some lettuce, place it into the salad bowls, and then add some sliced beets, again using her own bare fingers. This was after bussing table of dirty dishes and handling currency. I don't have to tell the average person how unsanitary this is, but apparently I did have to tell the waitress. I spoke with her about it after paying for the meal. I've learned never to complain about food or service at a restaurant, until all the food has been delivered and the bill resolved. I guess I could have complained about it before paying the bill, but when I asked to speak with the manager, she said the manager wasn't around, but I could speak to her. After telling her about my health concerns of her preparing food in an unsanitary manner, she thanked me for the "constructive criticism". Anyway, you'll see good reviews for this place, just ask them to close the door to the kitchen if you come for a visit.

You know those little places your afraid to try but hear is great, well this is and you should definately try it. The 1/2-1/2 is the best! You get twin sandwhices, one being a french dip and the other being a steak sandwhich. The Steak Sandwhich is a thin slice of new york and the owner cuts them him self. The Prime Rib is also the best in town. The bleu cheese is also made by the owner and a secret he will die with. The horseradish sauce in incredible. You have to try it atleast once. Days can be busy as many state workers come for lunch. Depending on the night it can be busy aswell but worth the wait.
