Editorial Review for Nationwide Meats – by Elaine Hesse
The Scene
Nationwide meats began as a butcher shop and evolved over the years into a lunch hot spot. Big John stands behind the counter where his dad once stood, serving up brown bags of food and conversation. The walls are made of cheap (but apparently resilient) paneling, and the place has only a fraction of the seating it needs.
The Food
The menu is simple: meat sandwiches, burgers and fries. There's also a long list of milkshakes for dessert, including peanut butter. The steak sandwich, served on a garlic-toasted roll, is one of the best anywhere. Ask for grilled onions, mushrooms and cheese to complete the experience. The fries are huge quartered potato affairs, and aren't always cooked through. The onion rings aren't much better than the grocery store variety, so save your appetite for steaks and shakes.

this place was kickback, very comfortable. the workers there seem a little rough but were actually quite pleasant. lots a seating and open space is a plus. got the original steak burger and it wasnt bad but wasnt great either. it was definitely high quality but the taste was just not memorable. the fries were big but really overrated in other reviews. the price for what you get is pretty reasonable, around the same as something you would get from chili's but without the service and sides.

I went to Nationwide Meats with three of my closest friends. At first I was worried of the place I chose judging it by the outside, but decided to still give it a try. The service was very personable. All four of us had the sirloin steak burger and we all agreed it was one of the best burgers we've eaten. They seemed to take a little long bringing us our burgers, but in the end biting into the juicy burger made it worth the wait. The fries themselves were cut huge and one serving was enough for two (or more) but I'm not a big potato fan so I stuck to enjoying my burger. I'll definitely be back again - I can't wait to try the steak sandwich next time.
Pros: delicious juicy burgers served in a brown paper bag (nice touch)
Cons: no free-refill machine, longer wait than fast-food, a tad on the pricey side for burgers
