Terrific service and quality!. I call Shanghai Garden for delivery often and it's always incredibly fast, exactly what I wanted, reasonably priced and great tasting. They're friendly and helpful. The Beef with Broccoli is terrific!
always amazing. My family and I have been eating at Shanghai Garden for years, since it opened. As far back as I can remember, their food has always been VERY tasty, with a wide variety, and affordable. One waiter remembers us every time my family comes in and is friendly. Food comes quickly, whether ordered there or delivered, and is hot and delicious. I recommend the potstickers (the best I've EVER had), as well as the chicken and green beans in black bean sauce (i think its a daily special, not on the menu). They remodeled a few years ago and the new interior provides a more pleasant ambiance. I had to write a review after reading those that say Shanghai Garden is disgusting.. that is just unfathomable to me. Every thing I've ordered there, and every time, its exactly what I was looking for. It's become a Christmas Eve tradition for my family and I to order Shanghai Garden (because they're open and again, delicious.) I look forward to my potstickers tonight!
Best Chinese Delivery in East Sac - and beyond!.
First time ordering from Shanghai and requested delivery. Not kidding - the order came in 15 minutes, on a Sat night at 6:00 p.m. I thought for sure I was receiving old/cold food, and couldn't believe it when my order was EXACT (I asked for exceptions), steaming HOT, and absolutely the best Chinese I've had in years!!! Noodles are perfect, walnut shrimp is succulent - large, perfectly prepared. If there were a higher star rating, I would choose it!! I am SO hoping this isn't a fluke - because this is my favorite take-out/delivery restaurant in Sacramento!!!
Chicken chow-fun noddles are too die for!
Like any Chinese place, this one has some dishes that are made well, and some that are just plain atrocious.
Their specialty seems to be Szechuan, and most of the dishes from stemming from that region are pretty good. The Szechuan-style chow mein, for example, is tasty, but avoid the actual pork in it, if you don?t like rubbery meat. A lot of szechuan cuisine has meat cooked in it that?s cooked until it?s chewy, which is not a popular thing with us Americans. I personally liked the wonton soup. Their lemon chicken is good, and their crabmeat/cream cheese wontons are passable.
AVOID anything with beef, for the above stated rubberiness reasons.
As for this being ?authentic? Chinese food: guys, if it?s made by Chinese people, it?s probably authentic. Maybe you spent thirty years in Canton, or something, and I?ll defer to your experience. But if you?re trying to say that Frank Fat?s is ?more authentic? than this place, I think what you?re *trying* to say is that Shanghai Garden is *cheaper*. Yeah, it is, and it will taste like it.
Also, they deliver, which is nice.
no good. the food is awful i agree with the others, at first i thought no way give them a chance, i was starving so i ordered delivery. the wonton soup tasted like sweet and sour soup with wontons in it (NASTY) the sweet and sour chicken was bland and tasteless, and the beef and broccoli was just awful. i threw it all away. what a waste of money.
Are you kidding me??? This place is awful. I used to work across the street from this place and the ONLY reason we ever ate there is because they would deliver when we were under a deadline. This is not even close to real chinese food. It reminds me of "chinese" in eastern kentucky(My mom lives there so I'm not making this up), basically deep fried something covered in slop.
Do NOT eat here if you want chinese as there are good chinese restaurants in Sacramento. Try Frank Fats(any) or Golden Palace(Natomas) instead.
MSG for ME!!. Who the hell is the retarded American who goes into a Chinese restaraunt and tells THEM that they are making their chinese food the wrong way.. with MSG!!! Dude if they dont come into your vegan veggie natural foods flop house and tell you that your patchuli (sp) oil stinks then why are you raggin on their food. I highly recomend this restaraunt and hve only had good food and good service. The place looks great
RiverLunchBreak. Ordered Ginger Beef over rice. Rich brown sauce, tender meat - too many bell peppers. I don't eat onions - so bell peppers were served instead. Next time I'll ask for bok choy, asparagus, or chinese peas which would be better for me. Service was minimal, but water was refilled. Soup, water and hot tea came with the meal.
rude staff and MSG in their food.
Before I was about to be seated, I asked the waiter if they used MSG in their food. The waiter frowned and said, "Of course we do, all reputable Chinese restaurants do"
I stated, " MSG is a flavor enhancer and my freinds who are chefs would disagree". I then left.
A neighbor went there to retreive his order which was for take out, although my neighbor was not going to eat there because it was "take out", the server still wanted a tip. This place makes me sick.
Delivery, takeout, business lunch: This place serves Chinese to the masses in many forms..
Tucked away in a stylish shopping strip in East Sac, Shanghai Garden is as cute as a button from the outside. The interior could use some sprucing up, but who cares what it looks like with food this good.
The menu looks pretty much like all the other Chinese food menus with the exception of non-traditional items like fried crabmeat cheese wontons (a new twist on an old favorite), tempura mushrooms (tempura is usually seen on Japanese menus) and curry chicken (mainly found on Indian menus). Shanghai specializes in Mandarin and Hunan recipes and will de-Americanize dishes upon request.
