Cheap drinks. I like monkey bar because they have cheap and tasty drinks and the atmosphere is kind of funky and fun. However, it is always too crowded and noisy. It is a terrible place for groups and the parking is really limited.
See for yourself. This bar is overrated and disappointing. Trendy to the uneducated and desperate. If you like to mingle with a deadbeat crowd then this is place for you. The lack of room forces individuals to be herded like cattle onto a small outside patio. Access to the bathroom is very difficult. It might be great to those who have never step foot outside of Sacramento, but a huge disappointment for those who truly enjoy good, fun, entertaining bars. This trendy hangout remains a venerable staple in the midtown bar scene..
Cracked black-and-burgundy paint and brushed-steel tabletops make for a dim, sleek atmosphere. The familial relationship to the popular KBar and Blue Cue is apparent in the young boisterous crowd, which floods the place at happy hour and on weekends. Wednesdays, the bar morphs into the "Vinyl Lounge," where a DJ spins funky house music after 10pm. Service is notoriously slow, and patience is a necessary virtue during a visit.
Patrons fancy the plethora of specialty drinks, including the popular Monkey Punch, a concoction of blueberry schnapps, rum and orange and cranberry juices. Also a hit is the Mandarin Cosmo, made of Absolut Mandrin, triple sec and cranberry and lime juices. For the less adventurous, a dozen beers are available on draft, but the wine list is rather shabby.
No Good for Dates. Not a good spot to take a date, let alone a first date. The people are too many, the noise is too much and the service is too slow. May be a good spot to hang out and meet some interesting folks, albeit trendy and overrated.
One of the best atmospheres in town.
Small place and can get crowded fast, but a very popular bar with the local party people
Drinks are dirt cheap and pack a punch. Pretty good DJs on weekends
Nice place to take out of towners
Going Bananas. The Monkey Bar has become a midtown staple. They have added a late night menu on Fridays and Saturdays as well as DJs on certain nights of the week. Don't forget about visiting the Monkey in the mornings too! Pull up a chair at the bar, grab a paper, some eggs and a bloody mary and you're good to go! Would highly recommend a better sound system, that's my only complaint!
