Everyone screams for ice cream at this landmark parlor.. The Scene
Gunther's isn't particularly pretty, nor is it in a fashionable neighborhood. But while the ambience--scarred and very well-worn--isn't impressive, its ice cream is another story.

The Food
Fanatically appreciated by local sweet tooths, the homemade ice cream is available in a dizzying array of flavors (be sure to try the Bing cherry and the chocolate mint), is loaded generously onto cones or used as the base for the parlor's massive sundaes. In addition to the ice cream, however, you'll also find mud pie on a stick, chocolate-dipped cheesecake (no kidding) and even chocolate-dipped banana chips. The line is long on weekends--especially the evenings--and you may have to wait 10-15 minutes to get to one of Gunther's harried scoopers. But the atmosphere is jovial, and your cravings will deepen as you jealously eye everyone else's dessert.

the best then the best now.. the best in the city,they gave cones away win i was a kid,on holidays,my mom and dad took me there in1949,we lived about 8 blocks from there,been going ever sence,iam 62 and love gunthers ice cream

Tradition. I remember going here as a child, and when I go now it brings back those memories. It's the best place to get icecream on a summer night, or any night for that matter. It has a very "at home" feeling. I love it!
