Best atmosphere in town. A very serene restaurant; you feel very at peace as soon as you walk in the door. It may have taken a little while to get our food but that is only because they prepare it per order. The food is excellent and makes you feel alive.
Will not go back. The service leaves a LOT to be desired. After being seated, I sat for 15 minutes before anyone even came to the table, I had to flag the waitress down, even creatively using the mirrored wall. The menu did not seem appetizing and it seemed like there were mostly soup style dishes. I ordered the tempura fries as an appetizer, which was the highlight of the meal. The other dish was a yellow type curry with potatoes, fake ham and a soggy drumstick in the middle. It was super hot (temperature) and really watered down. I was disappointed after reading some of the positive reviews here :(
One of the Best Restaurants in Sac!. I love Andy Nguyen's! I've been there several times, and it's become one of my top choices to bring people from out of town. Its a truly unique dining experience with a totally vegetarian menu, but even the devoted carnivores that I've taken have liked it. The pverall style is fresh and the way the flavors are mixed is soooo yummy. Try the wraps (served with fresh herbs and the tastiest sauces ever)--they are all good and I think I've tried them all. My favorite is the wraps that you roll yourself at the table. They get everyone into the act in a fun way and are delicious.
Amazing vegetarian food. 1st off-This place is different from all of the other Andy Nguyen's establishments. This is an All vegetarian restaurant (you can request Vegan) that has creative and flavorful dishes. The price is a little steep, but not over priced. The atmosphere is great, the service is decent, but the real star of the show is the food. I recommend the "4 Noble truth's dish" and my personal favorite the "Pure Heart Lemon grass fish." There are a couple items on the menu that aren't very flavorful, not to say that they are by any means bad, they just don't have the amazing robust flavors that the rest of the menu possesses. (EG: Fried rice, or the pineapple fish dish) Personally I stick to brown rice and pile the other goodies on top of it. Overall you can not find better quality vegetarian food in the Sacramento area.
Despite the reviews we read - it was terrible!!.
My wife and I are vegan, and always love finding a new (to us) place that appears so vegetarian friendly. After mentioning Andy Nguyen's to me many times as a highly recommended place, we took the drive to Sacramento. We had high hopes for this place based on the reviews we had read online (happycow[dot]org is good for us veg*ans). I didn't see anything on the menu that really grabbed me, but we placed our order figuring it would be good no matter what we got. First came the appetizer sampler we decided to try despite being $14. I couldn't stomach the salad at all, the mock ribs tasted like I would imagine canned dogfood on an old dry sponge might, the spring rolls were edible, though far from actually being any good. I tried to hide my lack of enjoyment as a courtesy to my wife, but it was clear the feeling was mutual. The one plus was that the portions were so small that it didn't seem like we were wasting food when we left it on the plate. At that point I was dreading the entrees. We ordered a coconut milk vegetable dish that was mostly just mushrooms and mint leaves. I like mint, and picked through the oily funky mushrooms and ate the leaves. We also got veggie fried rice. I've had bland fried rice, I've had over salted fried rice. . .this was just BAD fried rice. Oily, sour, icky, and un-edible like the previous dishes had been.
My wife had ordered a mock salmon fillet, she used to like salmon 20 years ago. I don't know if a person who eats fish would like it, but wow was that bad - gag reflex inducing bad! The teriyaki sauce and veggies that came with it was good enough though, so between that and some mint leaves we did our best to pretend we'd had dinner.
55 bucks later we had food in take home boxes that the dog wouldn't even eat.
Needless to say, we won't be back. I hate to say something negative about a veg*n place - but there are so many great choices around that don't give vegan dining a bad rap - go elsewhere!
Brett and Christina,
the food is good !.
First time visitor,
We love it, the food is good and the price is right. Good service and very relax atmosphere for a nice meal after a busy and noisy workday. If you do not know what you want try the sampler and then at the next visit you can get the full course. We also vote with our feed and they are telling us to come back for more.
i ♥ andy nguyen's!.
I live in sacramIento and rescently became a vegan. let me tell you it is very hard! Someone just told me about this place and I had no idea how awesome it was until I got there! The menu is fabulous and almost everything is vegan, except for two egg noodle dishes. I feel like i just had the best meal that I have had in the last two months and I plan on eating there at least once a week (and I live right around the corner too! ).
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT !
Marred by inconsistent service. My wife and I have been dinning at Andy Nguyen's on Broadway occasionally for the last three years or so, and I regret to say that, despite many positive aspects, I cannot recommend the establshment to anyone, owing to inconsistent quality and service, and the apparent lack of caring regarding the same by those who work there. We just returned today from what was our final lunch at Andy's - we won't be going back. On too many occasions, we've ordered lunch together, only to have one meal come out and sit, growning cold while we wait, wait, wait 10 minutes or more for the other dish to come from the kitchen. We've ordered an appetizer - and it arrives *after* the main dishes have been served. This has happened when the place was sort of busy, but also when it was not busy at all. When questioned, the serving staff just shrug their shoulders and say that they bring it out when the kitchen makes it. They seem to have no concept of the idea that people who are dining together would like to get their food at roughly the same time - no more than five minutes apart in any case! We put up with this and kept going back because the food itself was always wonderful - until today. Both my wife and I ordered the same dishes that we each had just a week ago, and they were completely different. Way too much rice, not nearly enough vegetables, the seasoning seemed weak, and mine had to be reheated in their microwave because it arrived more than ten minutes prior to my wife's dish (apparently they have no way to keep food warm until the whole order is ready)! The spring roles were OK - not my idea of dessert, but since they served them to us last, I guess that's what they were! We did not rant or yell at the server, but got no apologies for the service, and in fact our server would not even look me in the eye when I paid the bill. I guess they've had complaints about this before. We're voting with our feet - no more Andy Nguyen's.
Awakening of Faith is Delicious. Although the building/location is not the best, the yummy and inventive dishes make up for it. Such a diverse and flavorful vegetarian menu. Try especially the Awakening of Faith: delisious rice noodle dish with soy based "meat" and mushrooms and spring rolls and cucumbers and "fish" sauce... and etc... and etc... and more. A very interesting combination of flavors: I could eat it every day. And I probaby actually could, since it is likely very healthy compared to what you normally get in restaurants. The portions are big, the price is reasonable, and the service is fantastic.
Can't go wrong!!. I'm not vegetarian but I cannot get enough of the delicious, healthy, southeast Asian-inspired vegetarian cuisine offered at Andy Nguyen's (I've lost weight since eating here!!!). I especially adore their spring rolls. There's another dish I'm very fond of...It's something like a rice-mixed roll filled with bits of mushroom and ground soy, which is covered in a savory "fish" sauce. Yum! I make sure to try something new every time. It's paid off because there's only one thing I haven't liked (a clay pot dish). Whenever I'm hosting out-of-town friends or business acquiantances, I make sure to take them here. It's hard to go wrong with the delectable vegetarian menu. Meat eaters and vegetarians all delight when they taste the varied offerings here. I've received no complaints. In fact, one friend wants to move to Sacramento just so he can dine here more often!
