NOT A GREAT PLACE, ANYMORE!!! – I USE TO RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY, NOT ANYMORE. ON MY RECENT VISIT, I FOUND OUT THAT THE RESTAURANT WAS SOLD AND THAT NEW MGMT HAD TAKEN OVER. I WAS WORRIED THAT THE FOOD WOULD BE DIFFERENT, BUT THE STAFF SAID IT WAS THE SAME , NO DIFFERENCE. BOY, :"THAT WAS A BIG FAT LIE", MAYBE THEY DON'T NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE BUT I DO. FOOD QUALITY IS WAY DOWN, PLATE SIZE IS DOWN AND THE SERVICE IS NON-EXISTENT. THINK ABOUT THIS, THEY CHARGED ME $8.50 FOR A FRIED RICE THAT HAD OLD DRIED UP GREEN ONIONS, LETTUCE THAT WAS BLACK ON THE EDGES, AND PRACTICALLY NO EGG, BASICALLY IT WAS JUST "FRIED RICE". CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND ANOTHER DECENT CHINESE RESTAURANT IN SACTO?

Thanks to those of you who warned me about this place – I went here years ago and thought this was a great place. Today I going to take some friends here until I read the reviews and thank goodness I did. I followed the advice of one of the writers who said we should look up the health inspectors report at sac county. net. OMG, it was disgusting! Even more shocking was the fact that this place has been shut down more than once for the same violations. I mean cockroaches, a live frog with a red blister jumping around where food is prepared---EWWWW! That was enough not to mention pages of other violations. I can't believe this place was allowed to reopen under any terms. It is obvious that management does not care about public safety and health. Thanks again for the warning. I will never ever go here.

Very good dim sum – I was brought here by a local resident (I'm from New York City and travel extensively to San Francisco) and the dim sum was comparable to what I'd find in New York City's and San Francisco's better dim sum restaurants. The quality was very good and the variety was quite extensive although some dishes (Dau Foo Far, Pai Kwuht) sold out around the time we were there. Their Har Cheong Fun, Foo Pey Guin, Ngau Pai Yip, Siu Mai and Har Gow were first rate as well as their Shark Fin Dumplings (we Chinese have been eating sharks fin for millenia so that treehugger with a rant about sharks can go shove his views where the sun doesn't shine and just resort to intravenous feeding instead). The cost was also comparable with New York's and San Francisco's Chinatowns (i.e., it was very reasonable). I didn't see any of the health issues that other diners reported although the vermin and insect infestations and mould would be valid concerns. However, inspection reports for 2008 found at the mentioned website in another reviewer's post show passes and conditional passes with no failures so I don't know what that other reviewer was harping about. I cannot give a higher rating than 4 stars or "Recommended" because I have not tasted their dinner menu yet so I cannot evaluate their entire menu.

I Would not eat there – Looking for a place in sac to have dim sum and came across this place after reading reviews about health inspections I looked for myself...please go look in 2008 alone they have had to have ALL of the inspections re-done....both were yellow cards and the inspector did a good job at detailing how gross this place really is ...lets just say mold in the ice bins and employee ear wax is not my cup of tea..thank you to those who saved me from eating at this place..here is the link to go look for yourself, this is the actual inspection reports...food inspect . sac county . net

No shark fin soup, please – * Shark finning refers to the removal and retention of shark fins and the discard at sea of the carcass. The shark is most often still alive when it is tossed back into the water. Unable to swim, the shark slowly sinks toward the bottom where it is eaten alive by other fish.

* Shark finning takes place at sea so the fishers have only the fins to transport. Shark meat is considered low value and therefore not worth the cost of transporting the bulky shark bodies to market.

* Any shark is taken-regardless of age, size, or species.

* Longlines, used in shark finning operations, are the most significant cause of losses in shark populations worldwide.

* Shark finning is widespread, and largely unmanaged and unmonitored.

* Shark finning has increased over the past decade due to the increasing demand for shark fins (for shark fin soup and traditional cures), improved fishing technology, and improved market economics.

* Shark specialists estimate that 100 million sharks are destroyed for their fins, annually.

* One pound of dried shark fin can retail for $300 or more. It's a multi-billion dollar industry.

* Loss and devastation of shark populations around the world. Experts estimate that within a decade, most species of sharks will be lost because of longlining.

* Unsustainable fishery. The massive quantity of sharks harvested and lack of selection deplete shark populations faster than their reproductive abilities can replenish populations.

* Threatens the stability of marine ecosystems.

* Loss of sharks as a food staple for many developing countries.

* Local waters are invaded by large industrial, foreign fishing vessels that threaten traditional sustainable fisheries.

* Wasteful of protein and other shark-based products. Up to 99 per cent of the shark is thrown away.

Good Food marred by Poor Health Insp. History – Well, I went to this restaurant after a glowing review in the Sacramento Bee and it was good. After having moved to Sac from the Bay Area where Dim Sum restaurants are everywhere, it was nice to find a quality Dim Sum place. The reality of Sacramento, is that the restaurant scene is nowhere near as developed as in the Bay Area. New Canton was a pleasant find. Now I'm not so sure. I wish I had read the previous reveiwers claim of a vermin in the food and the closure of this restaurant by the county health insp.. I went online and viewed the county inspection reports and I was disgusted. Not only did this restaurant get shut down in 7/06 for vermin infestation, but it has been shut down before for the same thing. Plus it's had many other MAJOR violations. I think their record on inspections is terrible. I encourage anyone considering eating at this restaurant to view these inspection reports online and form their own opinion. I for one will not go back until I see several more consistent passable inspections. (Green) If anyone can recommend another good and clean Dim Sum place, please let us know.

Great dim sum – I was raised near Oakland Chinatown and this place is as close to authentic as I've found in Sacramento. The dim sum is fantastic!! Highly recommended for a business lunch.

Great Dim Sum and great service – I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. A good selection of Dim Sum mainstays, pork buns were flavorful, su mai and shark fin are both recommended. This was the best dim sum outside of San Francisco. Prompt service and the lunchtime hostess was a charm!

yuck! – ever since they changed ownership, the food had gone bad...... on the week of july 6.

a cockroach was found in a dish. it was still semi-alive.. the legs were still kicking!

the owners did not do anything to improve the situation.. their suggestions was the throw it out.

implying that the food was still good. the customers called the food and health inspection and they

sent someone out to inspect the place.. indeed.. there was a buy problem. well, now it is closed till further notice....

well, i say they should have also called the sac bee.. let everyone know to avoid the place! and place those pictures all over the internet..

with all those fancy pictures New Canton onwers hangs on their walls, they should hang a picture of the cockroach. so, they can be reminded that you as a chef! can not serve food with cockroachs and you are not to over change peopole and do thing about such horriable things!

Great Dim Sum! – I was looking for a good Dim Sum place in Sac, since I'm new to the area, and I found this place. It's wonderful, and the food is awesome. I've tried other places, but this place just stands out in my mind. It's crowded on the Sundays I've been there, and for a good reason, too. The service is ok, but there are a few people working there that are absolutely exceptional. The food is really fresh, and for a fair price. I'm planning on going there again and again for sure!
