When you get a craving for a wiener, there's no better remedy than this East Sac hot dog haven..
The Scene
Yes, its name makes kids snicker and parents roll their eyes, but before you drive past the Wienery for the 500th time, hit the brakes and go in. Tucked back in an invisible corner of the Elvas shopping center, this well-loved and heavily patronized diner sells the best-tasting wieners in town.
The Food
These are not the fancy, preservative-free, yuppie sausage-type wieners; they are the pink, All-American, "didn't your mommy ever tell you what was in those things?" kind. Now, that's not to say they can't be dressed up pretty fancily, slathered with refried beans, onions, cheese and taco sauce (the "Fiesta Dog") or loaded with barbecue sauce, onions and crumbled bacon (the "B.B.Q. Coney"). And if you are starving, don't miss the B.L.T. Dog or the Paisano Dog, the Wienery's very own Italian selection. There's always a homemade soup available, and if you're a lemonade fan, drink up. The Wienery is only open four hours a day (five on Saturdays) so plan accordingly. (6/99)
