THIS IS WHERE A REAL ITALIAN EATS.
This is what real Italian cooking is. Not this "New age Italian food" This is home cooked Italian food.
I am Italian and this is as good as a resturant can make it.
Are you kidding?. When we first walked in we were greeted by trashy juke box music from the side that is the bar. We were seated in a corner table that was very close to another although with all the room they have I'm not quite sure why we were seated so close. The waitress was rude and we could visibly and audibly see her agruing with another elder waitress regarding spliting tips. She slopped our bowl of soup down on our table and we served ourselves from a plastic, melted, ladle. The italian dressing was tasted like pure vinegar and the wine tasted like it was from a box. Overall, I'd NEVER eat there again.
Awful, awful, awful!!!. For not particular reason, we decided to try this place. Plus, it's always crowded. Good sign, right? Wrong. Apparantly, you lose your sense of taste when you get older, as evidenced by the hordes of retirees that flock to this establishment. Each of our party ordered a different dish; Every dish tasted the same because they used the same sauce - might as well have been out of a can. The fact that this place has stayed in business for so long is testament to the fact that Sacramentans have no taste. (See recent Sacramento Mag Reader's Choice awards). Without a doubt, the single worst restaurant at which I've ever eaten.
Mama-mia! That's Italian!.
Haven't had Italian food like this since the old Continental Restaurant down by the railyard on 3rd or 4th street back in the 1930's. Was a young fellow then, but I never forgot it. If you don't like the Espanol, you don't like Italian.

What Italian should be. Espanol is exactly what an Italian restaurant should be--the way the good neighborhood Italian places in my hometown of Syracuse, NY still are. Good smells, not too fancy, family-run, plenty of good hearty food, and NOT TOO EXPENSIVE!! Sac has its "fancy" Italian places. But when we'd go to an Italian place back East (like a good Mexican place here), we weren't looking for a fancy night out. It was supposed to be good, filling, reasonably-priced family fare. Like this.
