Editorial Review for Leatherby's Family Creamery – by Tamara Olson
The Scene
Teenagers loaded down with enormous portions of ice cream work the room, while patrons eagerly anticipate the delivery of their delectable, sweet treats. Upon a dessert's arrival, eyes grow large and mouths water. Next task at hand: getting to the bottom of the dish.
The Food
Most people come for the sundaes, banana splits, milkshakes, malts and other foods that melt. But if a meal is a must before diving into dessert, there are a variety of soups, salads and sandwiches on the menu. Try anything covered in Leatherby's homemade chocolate fudge, like Valerie's Black and White--vanilla and chocolate ice cream smothered with marshmallow, rich chocolate fudge, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry.

I haven't been to Leatherby's in a long long time....and now I remember why. We went last night. The restaurant was dirty...may have been all the french fries on the floor..... The service was good. We ordered a hamburger and a reuben. The $7.25 hamburger was fair if you're into frozen patties and not much else. The french fries were fried way to long. The reuben was awful. I think that a reuben is supposed to have sauerkraut, swiss cheese and corned beef, on grilled rye. The sandwich we received did have sauerkraut and grilled rye....that's about all. There was no discernable cheese and one thin Buddig type slice of corned beef. When the waiter came around we asked about it. He did go and bring a little more...very very disappointing. We ordered a black and tan sundae to take home. It might have been that. Couldn't tell for sure what it was. Packed in a styrofoam cup. I guess we should have eaten it there...but then there's those french fries on the floor to look at....Don't waste your time. We won't be back.
Pros: the waiter brought water as we sat down
Cons: food and cleanliness of store was AWFUL

Its SO hard to not come here when its just a few blocks away from here. Its been a childhood favorite and...to adult I still come here and order from them. They hire the best people to work their that make you feel comfortable and make you feel at ease. Their burgers and fries are tasty and made to order. But definitely going here for dessert, you have to split it up amongst people. I always had a banana split with at least 4-6 people to finish on a EMPTY stomach. So prepare yourself! The prices are very decent for the quality and taste of food.
