Editorial Review for Texas West Bar-B-Que – by Elaine Hesse
The Scene
It's a small stand-alone building that looks as if someone plucked it out of the South and plunked it down in a parking lot in the suburbs. The decor is reminiscent of picnic grounds: Plastic chairs, a walk-up counter and serve-yourself sodas make for a relaxed meal. No need to worry over spilled sauce.
The Food
Charbroiled burgers and chicken breast sandwiches, barbecue wraps, po'boys, brisket and ribs. There are also traditional sides like barbecue beans, coleslaw and potato salad. The brisket is lean, with sauce on the side for dipping, and the spare-rib meat slides right off the bone. The only thing missing is a nice, gooey bread pudding or peach cobbler. The rib and chicken combo baskets make decision-making less stressful.

I tried Texas West Bar-B-Que many years ago and it was decent. However tonight my wife and I tried the Folsom Texas West Bar-B-Que part of their chain of 3 locations. To be short and blunt, we will never go back again. We decided we wanted to sample all the basic BBQ foods, our order for $37 1 beer, 1 coke, 1 Texas Trio=(3 spare ribs, 5 small slices of brisket, 1 chicken thigh-leg), 1 pulled pork platter. Our sides, BBQ beans, coleslaw, macaroni salad, fries. The beer was good, the coke was good, and it goes downhill from there. The ribs were awful, dried out, not fresh, no decent flavor, must add sauce to eat. The chicken was nearly as bad, the brisket was the best of the trio, again small pieces, fairly dry. The pulled pork platter, meat was dryish and no flavor. I doubt the smoking is even done at this location, the food must be transported from another location and kept all day under some heat, there is no other explanation for such bad food. The sides were ok, the beans ok nothing special though. The coleslaw was ok not a lot of flavor. My wife liked the macaroni salad, and I thought it ok. The fries were decent. We will never go back!
Pros: The exit works.
Cons: bad food, what else is there?

I go here often and the food and service is great! You can't get better barbeque anywhere around town. The ribs and the pulled pork are my favorites. I've always had great service and the staff goes out of their way to make sure everything is just right, you don't find that in most restaurants these days. I always take my out-of-town guests to Texas West because and they always want to go back there when they come to town again. I highly recommend this place.
Pros: Ribs, Pulled pork, Tri tip
Cons: none
