Very very disappointing. I have been going to Chinois for over 10 years. It has always served good food. However I cannot not explain what has happened to quality (or lack thereof) the past two times I have been there. The latest was a few weeks ago. To begin with the rolls were extremely oily. However that was actually the highlight of the meal. We ordered a fish dish specialty and it was terrible - truly bad. The fish had to be a couple of days old and the sauce was waterly without much taste. Chinois has always been known for its sauces but the past two times have been poor. I suspect that they have changed cooks. Nothing else could explain the poor quality of the meal. I think they have lost me as a customer for good but I hope it is just me.

Not As Good As It Once Was. Birthday dinner for my bride, Chinois has always been one of our favorites, great food and service

1-15-09 Service was unexceptable to the point of almost leaving, it took ten minutes to get a order placed and thirty minutes to get food to our table.

The food that they have always been known for was marginal at best, my wife was the only one to have a drink,Ice tea and was never offered a refill.

Other patrons with other servers came in after us and completed their meals and left before we had our food served.

Restaurant was not very busy, I hope they figure it out, I have never ever left a negative review before.

The Best General Chicken In The Area. Their General chicken is really really good. For that dish alone, they get a high rating. The other dishes are above average. Their Kung Pao dishes can be really hot. The atmosphere is nice and the service has always been good.

Good food!. Chinois is a great chinese restaurant. It is not truely ethnic food but is an interesting fusion of asian food with a european twist. I don't live in Sacramento anymore but I really miss Chinois. Parking is really convenient here too!

The inventive dishes at this contemporary Asian restaurant bring European accents to traditional Chinese favorites.. The Scene
After sliding in the long, marbled-gray cushioned booths, you'll notice a pair of bright-red chopsticks popping out of a folded purple napkin. The colors of gold, purple, red and black--along with the swirled designs of a sand-etched partition--lend a festive elegance to the decor. Two aquariums adorn the full bar in back.

The Food
For starters, the East-West barbecued ribs will sweeten your palate with their spicy, sticky glaze. The house specialty Phoenix and Dragon entree combines a Chinese stir-fry of prawns, chicken and mushrooms, with avocados and thick Provencal herb cream sauce. On a more traditional note, the City chow mein proves mastery of the basics, with lightly fried snow peas, carrots and your choice of meat folded into tender noodles. The sharp edge of lime and ginger of the ginger crème brulée provides a tasty closing, but unfortunately an applesauce-like texture diminishes its potential.
