The Scene
Before you walk inside, take a gander at the poster pillar out front and see what shows are coming locally, or maybe find some new bandmates. Inside, don't let the huge subway poster selection or the beckoning smells of the espresso bar keep you from perusing one of the biggest music selections around.

What You Will Find
The Beat stocks new and used CDs, tapes, and some very rare vinyl for the DJ or the nostalgia buff. If you want it, they've probably got it, even bands you've never heard about, like Sneaker Pimps or Sheep On Drugs. Buy a Beat coffee mug, fill it with brew, and hit the listening bar to check the groove before you make your move.

What You Will Not Find
No videos or DVDs. No snooty salespeople. No low prices (gotta give up something for this great selection, right?).

One of the last places to get vinyls here in midtown. Knowledgable and helpful staff. They can hold items for you. Found some great, rare, unusual movies there. Great prices.

the only people who have written great reviews about the beat are people who have never been to any other record store. their new vinyl is ridiculously overpriced, and they never carry any new used vinyl. all the used records in the store can be purchased for $1 from any random thrift store, or from amoeba's clearance bin. do yourself a favor, and skip the beat. drive down to the bay and shop at rasputin's or amoeba instead.

The beat has the best selection on new, used, and nearly new cds, cassette tapes, vinyl, and even dvds and vhs!! you cant beat the selection! they even have cd singles, new and used! Their staff is knowledgible and friendly and will gladly help, if you ask...unlike what someone else said about you being on your own when you venture in they also have tix for certain shows in the local area...i highly recommend the beat over all the other record stores in sacramento. SUPPORT AND BUY FROM INDEPENDENT RECORD STORES...esp the beat! oh, and there is limited freee parking next to the beat!!
