Good Dentist/ poor assistant

I thought I found a good Dentist and Dr. DeTrano probably is, but I will never know because of the assistant he has running his office. After the initial exam, xrays and the Dr.s recommendations, I developed an abscess and called Dr. DeTrano. The office was closed, so I left a message on the machine. I was very surprised when Dr. DeTrano personally returned my call and he asked me to come in that afternoon. Dr. Detrano examined me and gave me a prescription for an antibiotic. Ater taking all the medication it appeared the abscess was gone. Three days later the swelling and sensitivity returned and I called Dr. DeTrano and spoke to his assistant. She said she would check with the Dr. and call me back. She promptly called back and said I could get a refill of the antibiotic. I asked her if she could call the prescription in and she reminded me of my appointment for the following day for deep cleaning. She told me I could get my prescription then, or she could call it in now-- but would charge me $40.00 to do so! I was shocked and told her I would wait until tomorrow's appointment. I could not believe what she had told me so I called my wife and told her about this and she also could not believe it. She asked me to call the office back and make sure I understood her correctly. I called Dr. DeTrano's office and asked the same person if this $40.00 charge was standard office policy and she said it was. I told her to cancel my appointment and I would make other arrangements. I will never return to this office but I will spend as much time as it takes to tell as many people as I can the terrible customer service provided by this office.

Finally--A dentist I don't fear!!

Okay--first off, I absolutely DREAD dental work...but not now. I couldn't even say why, but Dr. Detrano has something very comforting about him. OH--and he speaks SPANISH (which is great for my mom!!). His staff are all competent (to say the least), and are able to answer questions quickly. Probably my favorite thing about Dr. Detrano is that he's very patient and easy to talk to; I never feel rushed or like I'm taking up all his time. Defnitely 2 thumbs up! (If you're reading this, Dr Detrano, Thanks for the easiest filling I ever had!)

• Pros: Easy to talk to, LISTENS, very relaxed atmosphere.

Great dentist, great work!!

For a giant of a man (he's quite large), Dr. DeTrano is very soft handed and I felt completely comfortable the whole time. After the assistant was done, Dr. D (as we know him) made sure to spend lots of time answering my questions (and even seemed interested in what I was asking!).

Anyway, my wife and I both go for cleanings/check-ups and all the other toothache stuff and couldn't be happier. I wish my regular doctor were this good!
