YOU WERE EXTREMLY RUDE @ RIBS FESTIVAL IN WEST SAC. GO to * SANDRA DEE'S BBQ* ON 15th street in DOWNTOWN. SANDRA DEE'S IS A MILLION TIMES BETTER BBQ,BETTER RIBS,BETTER SERVICE,BETTER PRICE. SANDRA DEE'S SHOULD BE BEST RIBS IN SACRAMENTO,CA

Grumpiest, rudest owner of any restaurant. If you want clogged arteries, JR's is the place to go! If you're looking for customer service with free entertainment where the owner yells at his workers as they're serving your food, JR's is the place to go! If you want more BS than the cows left before they became your meal, JR is the one to see at JR's Texas BBQ!! Enjoy!

Come here if you want very very dry leftover BBQ that's been sitting in the oven all day.. i've read about this place a few months back in a sacramento magazine and i was extremely excited to try it since i loved trying great food. The magazine described them as the best bbq place in sacramento and i've seen them mentioned in numerous other magazines before also.. in the next few months i've seen them in tv commercials and generally all over the place catering at special events such as the state fair and such. At this point, my expectations were really high and i just couldn't wait for the opportunity to try it out. Finally, I made the trip out to check out this joint. the place is pretty large with plenty of seating. Prices were decent. The workers there behind the counter were real friendly and that's why this place gets two stars instead of one. Here's where all the pro's end and the con's come in. After ordering the food, the worker gets the food out of an oven. I was actually expecting it to be bbq'd when we ordered it. Could this really be the famous JR's that i've been hearing about? The food looked dry but i reserved my judgement until after i have tasted it. We had the pork ribs and the chicken. the food was even more dry than it looked. it tasted as though it had been cooked the day before and kept overnight in that oven to keep warm. what happened to the wonderful food i had read about in the magazines? The reviews stating that the meat was so juicy it would fall off the bone? Both the ribs and chicken were terrible. i've tried bbq at other places such as Pit Stop BBQ and House of Chicken and Ribs before and it tasted wonderful. Food tasted fresh and juicy. JR's food was a far cry from what i had read and heard it to be. the food is so dry, it's barely edible. tastes like leftovers from and bbq at home that are popped in the oven to heat up the next day. I'm curious as to how this place got so many awards and won the title of the best bbq restaurant in sac. i was highly disappointed with my visit and won't be returning.

Editorial Review by Christy Buena. Barbecue restaurant serves smoked brisket, pork ribs, chicken and hotlinks at reasonable prices in a family-friendly atmosphere.

Good brisket - the rest is just ok. We've been to JR's several times. The service is always slow - the ladies behind the counter are more interested in talking to each other than taking your order. But you can always get a seat, and the portions are generous.

The rest of the menu is so-so, but the brisket is great! Very flavorful and smoky. Sides are unexceptional. Sauce is chili-powder/vinegar based - which is not my preference.

JR is a great guy, though - very friendly. Pool tables and large screen tvs make it fun for a very casual outing.

Texas? Not hardly... Not sure how an ex-roofer from Stockton who's never set foot in Texas came to name his BBQ joint after the lone-star state, but the food certainly isn't the reason.

The service and attitude here are outstanding, the room could seat 3 football teams, and the prices are bearable. From there, it's mostly downhill.

Chicken was a little dry, probably not their fault, it's the inadequate size of their smoker and cooking techniques that should share the blame.

The beef was overtrimmed, unflavorful, and a little on the dry side. Sauce and sides were ok, but otherwise, the menu was uncreative and all blends together (not enough distinct flavor) Like most of the locals, they just don't smoke their meats long enough.

I've heard their catering options are reasonable, if you're looking to have them come to you, otherwise skip the drive.
