Worst place in sac.
Walked in and was told I could not order a beer unless i was there to order food. I work for caltrans and was going to have a beer while placing a very large order.
The girls attitude toward me was very rude and when i called to speak to manager she said that is their policy.
The palce was EMPTY on Friday 9/11/09. I am white and feel it was blatant racism. We will Never ever step foot in that place again.
BEST BBQ,GOOD PRICES,GREAT HOT BBQ SAUCE. I Been to hella places in sac.Sandra dee's is the BEST #1 bbq in 916.They got hella good bbq.The ribs are perfect. They have homemade HOT or sweet bbq sauce. They have good prices, nice small bar.EXCELLENT service,GOOD homemade food on menu.Go here and eat,it will make you feel better in the BAD ECONOMY TIMES.
Not Good - Not Good At All. I have eaten at Sandra Dee's several times since they came to town. The very first experience was great but things have gone downhill since. The quality of meat is excellent and literally falls off the bone (ribs) but someone should tell the cook that there are other seasonings available besides salt. I was unable to eat my last order. The greens, macaroni and cheese and ribs were way too salty. Also, my order was "to go" but not a hello or a smile from the hostess even though I left her a tip. Bad food, bad service. I give up.
decent, not great ....
I am not from the south, but I love good southern cooking; having visited GA, LA, VA, NC, and TN and tried loads of tasty foods. So, I was anxious to find good, down home southern, creole cooking without having to fly east. My GF and I tried the Thursday evening special of Fried Chicken. It cam with your choice of two sides and cornbread. We selected the baked beans and hush puppies. The chicken was good; definitely better than the colonel or churches, but not the best I've had of late. If you are in San Francisco on a Thursday night, go by Home on Market for a good fried chicken breast. The hush puppies were a little dry. The beans were good. We also took some sweet potato pie and red velvet cake. Neither was something to write home about, the red velvet cake in particular was too dense, not moist, and to be frank was stale. It was like eating day old bread.
All that being said, I'll go back to Sandra Dee's to try the po'boys ... come on where can you find po'boys?!?!?! I have to give them a try. If there are good, my rating of Sandra Dee's will definitely roll out to a three.
craving for it. The BBQ is smokey and the fried foods are corn meal breaded so it can be a bit gritty. I've had real soul food and this isn't the greatest but considering its in Sacramento, I give it an extra star. The comments about the slow service are true too. Try The Plantation instead if you're really looking for home cooked soul food. Don't go here if your looking for Sacs best BBQ though...Sacramento doesnt have good BBQ. Sandra's seafood is corn meal breaded...hard to mess that up. Sorry Sandra.
Over the top sweet potato pie!. This was my fourth trip here in the past few years and I have to say I?ve never been disappointed. I have always had good service and good food at a reasonable price. Having lived in the Deep South for many years, I am always up for some good southern cooked catfish, greens and tender barbeque to take me back. Actually this latest outing was my first experience with the barbeque and I can honestly say it was very good. I ordered the rib tips with a side of greens and a salad. The rib tips were cooked almost perfect and easily pulled from the bone. I tend to like them a bit tenderer but you can?t always get it exactly how you want it. I was given a choice of regular or hot barbeque sauce so I opted for the hot. I would have to say it was the perfect hot, not so hot that you couldn?t enjoy the meal yet hot enough to where you didn?t desire more heat. I do have to admit that the taste of the sauce was very familiar to me. In fact it tasted just like Bull?s-eye Original barbeque sauce with some heat added. I personally like the brand but in the south barbeque sauce was a bit different. The greens were extremely good, not how I would have expected in the South but still incredible. I would normally give this meal three stars but I have to say, the slice of sweet potato pie that finished my meal was incredible to say the least. That alone took me to four stars and I would recommend it to anyone.
Terrible Terrible Customer Service and Cold Food. First of all, when I called to reserve table, the girl was rude on the phone and really sarcastic. But I was like, "Okay, I'll still give it a chance and go try the food despite my bad disposition about this place already. So, my friends and I went to dinner there. There was 5 of us. Once we arrived, we were seated right away. The bus boy came and gave us our water but our waiter was NOWHERE to be found. I had to flag someone down at the bar to come take our order after 25 minutes. Seriously, we didn't even have a waiter the entire night, NOONE came to check on us. Our food took literally 30 minutes to come by our table and plus it was ridiculously COLD. Who eats Mac and Cheese cold, along side with a freaking salad? This place really really dissappointed me. I will never go there again and NEVER recommend it to anyone. If you're looking to eat, don't eat here, you will be wasting your time and money!!!
Best BBQ EVER!. I went to Sandra Dee?s BBQ a couple weeks ago despite the mixed reviews on this site (I always have to see things for myself). First of all, the food was AMAZING. From the BBQ sauce to the tender ribs I had I was in food heaven. My husband is usually very picky about food (especially when we try new restaurants) and he fell in love with the food as well. In fact he commented about how much the food reminded him of New Orleans. On top of all that, the service was much better then I anticipated for how busy the restaurant was. All in all we loved our experience and will definitely go back very soon and we will tell all of our friends just how much we loved Sandra Dee?s.
Save your money and gastronomical fluids. This has been one of the worst BBQ experiences we have ever had. 4 to 6 of us go out to eat every day and both FOOD Quality and SERVICE were one of the worst. Once taking the order 35 min had elapsed, the food was delivered cold, and the French fries Hot (they were all that was but to salty). Tri-Tip was COLD, OLD, DRY and was flavorless with out the sauce which was good. The Shrimp was not fresh, COLD, dry and had no intrinsic value as food. The sides BBQ beans (good) Collard Greens (so bad there are not words that can be used here in both taste and smell). As you walk up to the establishment you can only smell fish and its not a fresh smell. You could see the owners walking around but did not once question us on our meals or the service.
We have been here twice now, and both times were wonderful! There was a Jazz band playing the last time too! We went with a party of 4, and all of us got something different, and we all shared, and I thought all of it was great! This is a fun place to go, if your looking for good food, and not a chain.
chipster13. I was raised on southern cooking and my first visit was awsome. the cat fish was to die for and greens with turkey sausage a plus. I ended my meal with a piece of sweet potato pie that would make my grandma proud. can't wait to return for the ribs and tri tip. two thumbs up!
