Editorial Review for Lucca Restaurant – by Elizabeth Bucceri
The Scene
The brick walls, worn red-tile floor and exposed rafters are a throwback to the building's former life as a pottery shop. Add bright artwork, hanging glass accent lights and a polished wooden bar, and the place becomes a magnet for young urban professionals. On weekends, it's difficult not to literally rub elbows with the crowd in the bar--it's one of the trendiest in town.
The Food
Influenced by Italy, France and Greece, the food is consistently fresh and creative. Starters include addictively salty, paper-thin zucchini chips and tangy myzithra cheese-coated flatbread. Seared steak salad, tossed with pungent Gorgonzola dressing, is a meal in itself. Mild citrus-cream sauce acts as the perfect foil to the creamy ricotta and goat cheese-filled pasta entree, while pan-seared salmon is flawless in light tomato butter. For dessert, try gooey molten chocolate cake or seasonal fruit crisp perfectly balanced with honey and spice.

I believe that this midtown restaurant in underated and deserves more attention in the Sacramento Restaurant Scene. My wife and I ate here last week and were surprised how busy it was for a Tuesday night. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable about the specials for the night. Our appitizer of a polento pizza came out quickly and was delicious. My entree was a Sweet Pea chicken rissoto and was absolutly delicious. Perfect texture and the flavors were great. My wife ordered the prawn Linguini and that was also very good and rich. The shrimp were tender and went great with the cream sauce with roasted whole tomatoes. We both cleared our plates and went on to dessert. The creme brulee's come in a 3 pack of different flovors. This was something different and also very good. A quick walk to the bathroom and I saw the busy cooks in the open kitchen which adds to the feel of this homey restaurant. The Rustic brick and dark with bright color scheme was pleasing to the eye. I recomend Lucca to anyone looking for a great modern italian meal at the right price

Lucca is just plain great Italian food. My family visited from San Diego last weekend and we took them out to several restaurants, and Lucca was by far the favorite. You will pay a bit more at Lucca for your Italian food, but once you've taken your first bite, it will all be worth it. My family's first impressions of the food when it arrived on our table was that the servings seemed smaller than they expected, and that it looked fancy. At the end of the meal, our plates were all clean, we were stuffed and laughing together. The outdoor patio is also wonderful, especially diring the summer. You get the feel that you're in someone's beautifully kept back yard, with fragrant flowers, and nice lights hidden back in the garden, making for a romantic dinner for two.
Pros: Wonderful Italian food
Cons: A bit pricey, but worth it!
