What Happened! – "I'm SO dissapointed that I had to write a review. We used to go there for lunch at least 2 times a week and the food was always delicious and the service was prompt. We've decided that we need to look for another lunch spot because now it's bland and the service is slow. We have an hour for lunch which used to leave time for a pleasant stroll, but now we have little time to spare and have to hurry. I've heard rumors that the chef who was there is gone and I know it's not rumor at all. The bread pudding is awful now and the soups are bland and the food is either burned or cold or both. And Fridays are not the same. We loved Fridays because we could get the best seafood in Sacramento but that's what finally got me to write a review. The last time we went we all agree, it was less than mediocre. 3 strikes, your out!"
The most atrocious behavior and service ever! – After hearing all of the praise and hype about how good Sofia's is, I was dreadfully disappointed with the entire dining experience. The only high point was looking at a candle arrangement that was located near our table. We ordered an appetizer of Calamari. The Calamari arrived on a very small plate and was cold, soggy and very greasy as if it had been cooked an hour before we ordered. For our main course, we ordered Veal Picatta and Veal Marsala. The plates arrived about 15 minutes later. They too were cold and very lack luster in appearance. The level of tenderness of the veal made a cube steak taste like fillet mignon. The garlic mashed potatoes were lacking even the faint taste of garlic. To top it off, we were automatically charged a 20% gratuity for a party of 2! I have received better service from my local Denny's at 2:00 AM in the morning. If you wish to punish someone, send them a gift certificate for Sofia's.

Good for lunch, bad for dinner? – The consensus seems to be that Sofia is an excellent place to grab a burger for lunch, but a terrible place for dinner. I certainly agree with the latter. While the place is just absolutely stunning, our server seemed to have very little experience serving people - she even cut me off in the middle of a question about the food to bid us goodnight.
The bread and the appetizer (parmesan-crusted prawns) were pretty good, as was the tiramisu - it was the main course that was disappointing. Their risotto lacked flavor and texture, and my husband's salmon was overcooked. It was tolerable, but I'm genuinely surprised that anyone would call this the best Italian restaurant in Sacramento.
Great food, good quality and good prices! – My fiance and I went to Sofia's for a quick dinner before a show tonight. We split a pear, spinach and candied walnut salad, it was quite good and was a large portion. The split salad would have been a normal sized salad anywhere else. We had the breaded shrimp appetizer, also very good. I loved my Gnocchi for dinner. The ambiance was romance and chic. There are so many places in Sacramento that charge you a ton for not much in return, Sofia is a great find!
Great Downtown Lunch Spot – The first time I ate in to eat at Sofia, a friend and I were driving around downtown looking for a place to eat lunch. To our suprise, we look to the right on H at 11th and here, in downton Sacramento, is a restaurant with parking, FREE PARKING! The exterior of the restaurant is a bit drab (Olive Brown with Maroon Awning) but the lovley patio area had whispy white drapes that sort of dressed it up a little. The interior was a nice suprise. Beautfully decorated and cozy enough to think it would be a romantic dinner spot.
We were seated promptly and the wait staff was very polite. The waitress seemd new because she didn't tell us what the specials were until we asked but other than that, she was on top of it. My friend ordered the Veggie Pesto and I ordered the Sicilian Burger special of the day. She described her Pesto dish as a mouth watering delight. It was full of veggies and mixed with penne and it smelled SO good.
My Sicilian Burger was what I would honestly say the BEST burger combination I have ever tasted. The burger was big with a large thick patty covered with fontina cheese, a roasted red bell pepper and some type of chopped olive mixture on a focaccia bun. Surrounding the burger was a boatload of Garlic fries cooked to a golden brown, It was about ten bucks for my buger and it was well worth it.
And I did return!
The second time, the outside drapes were gone and outdoor heaters were warming the patio. This time the waitress did tell me what the specials were, and I ordered the Roasted Butternut Squash Soup. It was a cream soup with just the perfect hint of sweet and saltness. Oh YES! Delish! I recommend lunch at Sofias and I will soon try their dinner with my man.
One of the best restaurants in town! – I love this place! I have been coming for drinks after work forever. I finallly had time for dinner and I was blown away. I knew the chef's reputation was excellent but was so pleased to experience it for myself! The prices are much less than you would expect from this quality of food. The staff is always friendly and warm. I'm a patron for life!
Good for lunch – This was a good place to go for lunch downtown. The service was quick, and the food was good. It is pretty nice inside, and they have a lot of room upstairs if you need a place for a meeting or banquet.
Amazing Atmosphere - Great Service – Nice and quiet, beautifully decorated, and the food was wonderful! I highly reccomend you to try this restaurant, well worth the price!
Very Disappointing – We had to wait for a table, even though we had reservations. Tried to request a booth, but none were available. Unfortunately, things got worse from here. Had to wait to be greeted by waiter, had to wait 10-15 minutes for water, and took 20 minutes to get a drink. The waiter never brought bread, but after requesting twice, it came at the end of the meal. It took over an hour to receive the food and when arrived was lukewarm. It seemed like everyone who worked there had never had previous restaurant experience. I would not recommend this restaurant.
