Spicy Johnny. I love Tamaya, but I know to go there only when we have time to linger. Maybe that's one of the reasons why we do keep going back - because we don't feel rushed. For sure I go there to get the Spicy Johnny roll, along with my other favorites which are too numerous to mention. For me, it's a nice place to hang out and eat on a weekend.
Check out Tamaya. It's great!.
I don't know what Mrs. "Worst service ever!!" is smoking, but I've been to Tamaya many times with many different party sizes (2-15 people) and have never waited that long for food or experienced anything resembling service like that. And it's hard for me to imagine the typically petite and demure Asian waitresses going "BALLISTIC" on anything let alone a customer.
I've always been seated either promptly or after a short wait. The service is typical for most Asian restaurants / sushi joints I've visited, which is to say mediocre. Occasionally you'll get a more than competent server who will offer you another drink before you have to ask them for it. Sushi preparation is very labor intensive, so the wait for your food can be long on busy nights. Again, Ive never waited an hour, though. Maybe 30 minutes max. The sushi itself has always been excellent and the portions are generous. It's not "The Best" sushi I've ever eaten, but it's very good and consistently so.
Just for frame of reference, I've worked in restaurants for 17 years in every capacity from host to manager (never at Tamaya, though :-). I understand what it takes to run a restaurant well, so I'm probably more tolerant than the average customer when it comes to my dining out experiences. However, rants about good restaurants typically come from either the one poor customer who fell through the cracks on a very busy night or from a angry crackpot looking for a freebie or to trash someone's hard earned rep.
Check out Tamaya. It's great! It's really a 4 stars place, but I'm going to give it 5 stars to help balance out the ridiculous 1 star rating.
My favorite sushi place. I am vegan, and this place has a ton of options. Most places just have the same variation of the same two rolls for vegans. Not this place. A ton of options. I like Popeye the best. Try the Lychee Sake. Great service, prompt seating.
Worst service ever!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!. I'll admit- the sushi is okay, but the service is absolutely HORRIBLE!!!!!! I have been there 3 times (I know, I know...fool me once- shame on you, fool me twice- shame on me), but I stupidly thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. I was WRONG. Each and every single time, the service was incredibly revolting and shocking. FIRST off, the food takes SO LONG to make no matter what day you come in. You can go on a busy Friday night or a relaxed Wednesday, and the service is still ridiculous. Each and every time we've gone, we have waited over 40+ minutes for our order which consisted of simple sushi rolls. But, this last time we went was the final straw. We ordered 3 sushi rolls. The waitress brought the 1st one (after 40 minutes).....and 15 minutes later, she brought the second one. My husband and I were done with the 2 rolls, and we still didn't have the 3rd one. This is approx. 20 minutes later..... When we asked the waitress where our 3rd roll was, she went BALLISTIC on us and started talking trash about the sushi chefs saying it was their fault!!!! We explained to her that our 3 sushi rolls were our dinner, and that all 3 of them should've been brought out at the same time. So, we asked her nicely to cancel our 3rd order. Then, she gives us MAJOR attitude, talks some more trash and walks away. Then, she comes back and THROWS our bill at us!!!!!! After that, complete chaos ensued. She and another "manager" proceeded to yell at us saying "don't get mad at us in front of other customers, you better pay this bill, etc...." They didn't even apologize to us for anything or try to alleviate the tense situation. I could go on and on and on...but it's not worth my time. That place is a COMPLETE JOKE. Don't go there if you value good service. The "management" team is a complete mockery.
Average sushi, very long wait. It took an hour to get served once we were seated. Very reasonably priced, and the sushi was average. Not wonderful, but not bad. I would say its worth trying.
