Really good seafood!.
Just had lunch at the Tidehouse today (1/22/10)
Oh my goodness, was it good!
Rolly and I split:
3 piece order of fish and chips (cod) $9.89
and an order of hushpuppies $1.99 (I think, they weren't on the take-home menu)
They also have the fish and chips available for the same pricing in:
Lots of variety...besides seafood.......lots of salad, wraps, burgers. And "off the hook"......chicken, pork chops, rib eye. All kids of seafood combos and sampler plates.
Lunch specials beginning at $3.99.
Dinners are listed at $12-$15......includes:
coleslaw with rice pilaf or au gratin potatoes
soup or salad
seafood options......halibut, salmon, tilapia, cod, snapper, catfish, tiger shrimp, mahi mahi, and crab cakes.
Lots of grilled options.
Owner was very personable and obviously very passionate about what he does.
The breading on the fish could barely be called breading.......very light. Cooked perfectly, not greasy. Hush puppies are hands down the best I've ever eaten and get this.....something you won't find at the chain restaurants....HOMEMADE! Fried by not greasy, tender, with onion and corn and herbs. Delicious!
We'll be back real soon.
Rolly and I returned to the Tidehouse today for lunch (01/28/10)
He had wanted to try the catfish, and we didn't sample the coleslaw on our first visit.
The owner (Ron) asked him he wanted the catfish regular or Southern style. He chose the latter. It was cooked just as perfectly as the cod we had last week, with a nice cajun spice to it. A litle heat, but not overpowering, which we found just perfect. If desired, hot sauce is provided to "kick it up" a bit.
Coleslaw was a little "wetter" than most we have tried, but it was so flavorful and fresh, it wasn't a bad thing at all! We will definitely be ordering the combos, which come with the coleslaw on our future visits, as opposed to just the fish and chips option.
One thing that distressed us however, was on our first visit (from 11:30 to 12:30 one day last week) we were the only customers. Today, (from 12:00 to 1:00) we were again the only customers. Ron did say that they were busy yesterday (Tuesday is Senior Citizens day, with customers 62+ paying no tax, and also getting an additional 10% off). Today (Wednesday) was kid's day, but since ours are well past that age, we didn't ask what the deal was for that.
Come on people, don't let this little gem go the way of too many little Mom and Pop restaurants these days.
We plan on being back for his Valentine's Day special, if not before.
Would love to hear your opinions on this restaurant (we have no vested interest, other than not wanting a new favorite to disappear from the dining scene!)
