Editorial Review for Post Ranch Inn – by Steven Jenkins

The Scene
"A playground for the soul," promises this luxury resort's brochure, and for once there's truth in advertising. Rustic architecture, flower gardens, basking pools, yoga classes, stargazing, courteous staffers, delicious food and gorgeous guest rooms--not to mention the ridiculously stunning ocean views--all coalesce here to form one of California's most beautiful and relaxing getaways.

The Details

Guest rooms feature king-sized beds, private decks, slate spa tubs, fireplaces and stereos--but no TVs. For an extra-special stay, reserve the Ocean House, which seems to hover right over the sea, or the Coast House, which sports a unique circular design that mirrors the redwood trees nearby.

Insider Tips

The Extras

For a truly unique experience, stay in one of the tree houses. Each triangular room features a fireplace and private bath.

Know Before You Go

Along with the absence of TVs, rooms are without clocks, so bring your own if you're concerned with punctuality.

Rooms are priced according to location and privacy. We stayed in the butterly room (least expensive) -rustic and luxurious. The room rate includes a stocked mini bar with juices and snacks. The property is perched on a cliff amidst a forest overlooking the pacific ocean with breathtaking views! There are benches placed in secluded spots with ocean views. The restaurant has good food and beautiful views. Additionally, nice touches around hiking trails included buckets of bottled water. There are many trails to walk along and there is a wading and lap pool, and fitness center. You can star gaze at night with an astronomer or walk along with Bill Post (one of the owners) for a tour of local plantlife and history during the day. There are many nearby parks. As with all other reviewers: Although it was expensive, I was sad to leave and will definately return.

Pros: Location, Rooms

Cons: Expense
