Beautiful restaurant with lots of great menu choices and excellend service. So much fun!
by jjjjanicejo
My husband and I have been to the Pilothouse Restaurant on board the Delta King 6 or 7 times in the past 10 months. We like it more every time we go. This weekend we got a larger group together to go there for a holiday dinner. Everyone raved about it and couldn't believe they'd been missing it all this time. Our waiter, Michael, was knowledgeable, friendly, and always there when we wanted him. We all loved our dinner and the grand old Delta King was beautiful. This is really a good spot and worth going to Old Sacramento for!
- Pros: Great food, great ambience, friendly and excellent service
- Cons: You have to walk a little bit from valet to the restaurant but it is really no big deal.
Service

This was the first time I went to this restaurant. It was a very special occassion, a Graduation. Their service was not good at all. I made reservations. When we walked in to check in we were not acknowledge by anyone. I stood in front of the person that was ckecking in everyone and it took her about two minutes to even look at us. We ordered our drinks and our wine did not arrive until right before our meal. The waiter came and apologized for forgetting about us. I would not go back.
- Cons: service
One of the best riverboat dining experiences in town to impress a date.

In Short
The Delta King is an old paddlewheel boat that has been transformed into a hotel and restaurant. Lucky patrons are pampered as they gaze out the windows onto the murky but charming Sacramento River below. Lunch and dinner are fairly subdued and elegant, and diners can enjoy house specialties like the Fisherman's Stew, a fancy Caesar salad, and many pasta and seafood specials.
Dissapointing Birthday Meals
by lboo
A few years ago I went to the Murder Mystery Dinner they have and the food was below what I typically see as conference-style dining. I chalked it up to the mass production but the food does come from the same kitchen as the Pilothouse.
Last year I went to the restaurant and a play for my birthday. The steak salad I had was wilted and the dressing was heavy and overpowering. I asked for medium rare on the steak and it was almost bloody. We had creme brulee for dessert and either the eggs were bad or the chef did not temper the cream and eggs properly. When we pointed this out to the waitress she acted as if we were crazy.
I don't think I will chance another visit to the Delta King for meals...for theatre or drinks, yes, but I will avoid the food!
- Pros: View, Entertainment Options, Ambiance
- Cons: Food, Complaint Resolution, Service
College Graduation Dinner
by sandyjohn
My family and I had a wonderful experience at the Delta King. We were there to celebrate my Son's graduation from UC Davis. The food was excellent! The service was OUTSTANDING! Our waiter, Steve, was very attentive, friendly and personable. We highly recommend the Delta King and plan to return the next time we are in town. I just wish there was a Delta King in SoCal!
...ps...a very special thanks to Steve, you made it very special for us!
- Pros: Menu selection, Price/Value, Service
Better than expected
by kellypatriot
Because if your reviews we went to the Delta King and everything was excellent. The prices were lower than you indicated $25-35 including tax and tip. Service was excellent and the river views were beautiful. I loved the decor. This was a great experience!
- Pros: menu, service, river views
Romantic and friendly
by john916916
I like this spot and it has a very friendly staff. The parking can be difficult but they offer a validation in the city lot. The staff had good wine knowlege and suggested several moderately priced wines. The Prime Rib is a personal favorite with creamed horseradish. The table side Ceaser and the clam chowder are not to be missed.
- Pros: River views, Great old boat, Friendly staff
- Cons: , Pkg but they validate
SERVICE

I had a difficult time deciding between steak and fish. Much to my surprise, when dinner arrived I had my steak, with a small portion of fish beside it.
Now that is SERVICE.

Great bar for an evening cocktail, although the bartenders are a bit on the slow side.

Pig out with the Delta King!

This restaurant really knows it's stuff. Wait staff is very professional and patient. Food proportions are medium to large. They seem proud price wise for their meals and I guess they should be because of the quality. I would suggest any seafood plate first. This place comes highly recommended to all and would be a great introduction to Old Sacramento for out of towners. Their Cheesecakes are optional, they melt in your mouth and are very rich in texture. Here you can get a bite of history as well as a gut full of tastey classic style seafood.
- Pros: Ambience, Quality of food, Location
- Cons: Costly/Med to High, Limited menu choice
