Been to England. Closest I've seen to the real thing!!!

by stu77x7

You are all getting it wrong. Pubs are not supposed to be restaurants!!! You don't walk into a pub expecting a high class restaurant. Pubs should feel cozy and like home. And the food... it's comfort food. It's not supposed to be classy, it should be like your mum just pulled it out of the oven.

I've been to England and much of Europe. This is by far the most authentic pub I've seen in the Sacramento Area. Great "ENGLISH" with high ABV beer selection at VERY good prices. You pay here what you'd pay at happy hour at most other places. The food rivals that of all others. There fish and chips and bangers and mash are just like mum's. Every time the door to the kitchen opens it teases you with the aroma of being at home and smelling your mum's cooking. Finally a pub that has HP sauce just like in England. I you haven't tried it... it is a must. It's great on chips and well just about anything!!! The staff is very friendly and treat you just like you are one of their mates. Football (what American's call soccer) and Rugby are almost always playing on the telly. Except when you get some yank that wants to watch baseball. Want a true taste of what it's like across the pond. Go to Bonn's Lair!!! Cheers!!!

Great atmosphere, and throw back to a "real' pub

by SirMattBusby

A refreshing change from the noisy, bright lights of today's bar scene. The Bonn Lair, is filled with character, charm and charming characters. The bar staff are friendly, engaged and never leave you wondering where your next drink is coming from. The owners are ever present and never fall short with their warm greetings and unparalleled hospitality.

The food is good, truthfully not top class restaurant, but it does the trick. You have a few beers and need some sustenance, this menu will do the trick. Simple fair at decent prices.

Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

  • Pros: Great staff, friendly warm atmosphere
  • Cons: Parking might be a challenge, but be patient

The Lair Of Fun!

by knightRiderGirl

I just had to review this place after having such a good time. The atmosphere is cozy and the crowd is kick back. Not a young college group at all. It's a great start to a girls night out or a couples date. The mixed drinks were perfect every time as well as the bartenders. Cool hangout to add to your list of bars.

  • Pros: Good crowd
  • Cons: none

Fish....given the tail end.......rubber like texture....very BAD!!!

Streets of London (mid-town) is much much better.

  • Pros: None

European charm flows freely at this cozy pub, as do the Guinness and good times.

by Contributor

The Scene
Narrow, dimly lit quarters, dark walls and antique furniture give the place an Old-World feel. Add a dash of European sports in the form of flags, trophies, banners and dartboards, and you've got the ideal neighborhood drinking spot. Grab a cold one and a copy of the Irish Herald or the Union Jack, and slide into one of the pub's tall, private booths or cozy up in an oversized plush armchair. Transplants and travelers from Europe often crowd the bar to catch football or rugby games while chatting up their mates. The rest of the crowd is made up of blue-collar workers and a younger beer-guzzling crowd.

The Draw
Order traditional Brit fare like pasties, fish and chips, or bratwurst and wash it down with anything from oatmeal stout to strawberry ale.
