I usually just take my jeans in to get hemmed and I always get a perfect job, you can't even tell they were hemmed. A friend of mine recently brought a dress of delicate fabric to have altered and again the work was wonderful and the price is just right. I everyone I know to her!
Pros: Easy to access, fast service, and being a student it is also great that her prices are affordable.

I brought a bridesmaid's dress in for tailoring, but I was pretty worried about how much it would cost. I'd heard that most people hear the word "wedding" and immediately double their prices, but Jenny was completely reasonable. One of the other bridesmaids had less work done to her dress and was charged twice as much as I was! Jenny is also really, genuinely nice and very good at what she does--I was more than satisfied with the end result. In short, she is someone you can feel comfortable trusting with the clothes you love.
Pros: Service!
Cons: A little out of the way, but worth it.

I was looking for a dressmaker to make my wedding dress from an intricate beaded fabric that I purchased in India years ago. After realizing I didn't want to spend thousands (yes thousands) of dollars to have Seema or Miosa make the dress, I searched for local tailors, and was lucky to come across Elegant Designs. Jenny, the owner, is extremely talented. I brought in the fabric and printouts of the front and back of the dress I wanted. She made it perfectly. It's gorgeous and fits exceptionally. And Jenny is a wonderful and nice person to work with --- very professional and extremely talented. I have my dream dress at a fraction of the cost of what the boutiques on J St would have charged. Thanks Jenny!!!
