The Beat boasts an immense inventory of both popular and marginal music. Strengths: Vast selection, An amazing stockpile of used CDs, the massive vinyl section. Weaknesses: Recent releases are too expensive, no restrooms, limited parking (no biggie). All in all, one of Sac's best music sources. [sselfless]

The beat offers an alternative to the mundane environment of chain record stores. The selection rivals Tower/Virgin and even features local artists. The prices for used/new cds are reasonable and the staff is very knowledgable. Most important - it's cool.

The Beat! is a better record store than I would ever expect to find in Sacramento. They have a great selection of both new and used, vinyl and CD. If you're not immediately in the Sacramento area you can find them selling on some of the auction sites. But, like the last review, I highly recommend an in-person visit.
