Great food
by cityfoodcritic at Citysearch
Ate there on 5/2/09 and loved the food. Got two combo meals $11.99 ea, pork ribs and chicken leg. Counted as 4 pieces. Side potato salad and coleslaw. The pork ribs were great, not overspiced, and fell off the bone. The chicken was the same. The potato salad and coleslaw were not overspiced. You know how KFC immerses the coleslaw in sauce? Well, HC&R makes a clean coleslaw that is tasteful and not immersed. It is presented in a basket lined with paper, with the sides in cups. All in all, there was more than a senior citizen would want in a meal, so take some home. A senior couple would be just right ordering one meal for two. Try their great peach cobbler, too. So far, they are much better than other places I have eaten in Sacramento, including Texas BBQ (no offence). There is an outdoor BBQ cooking area, but this place knows how to cook it just right---not oversmoked. Try them out. You'll be glad you did.
- Pros: Juicy BBQ chicken and ribs
- Cons: Beans flavoring too much molasses
Best Sacramento BBQ, Good service, Large portions of food, Located in Antelope area
by t1jones at Citysearch
My co-worker told me the House of Chicken and Ribs has the best Sacramento BBQ around town. I visited the restaurant and ordered a combination plate of Ribs and Tri-Tip. Wow! the plate they brought me was loaded with food. The Pork Ribs and Tri-Tip were both very tender. The sauce was not too sweet like other BBQ restaurants. The barbecued meat was just incredible. The potato salad was like homemade. The House of Chicken and Ribs is one of the best Sacramento BBQ restaurants that I have eaten at. I will be back!
- Pros: Great Meats and Side Dishes
- Cons: No wine

Restaurant serves fried oysters, hot links, ribs and chicken, and offers an open-air kitchen and takeout.

Tri tip was the best. Fried chicken like homemade. Best side dishes in Sacto. Out of the way. Easy parking.
Food of the Gods

In all my years traveling across this country, never and I repeat NEVER have I tasted food that compares to the House of Chicken and Ribs. Try it once and they will have to call the police to have you removed. You better try the place before the staff gets hired away by Opra Winfrey. Martha Stewart would have to just sit down and shut her mouth cause ain't nothin she could teach these folks. Cris Rock will be overheard to say "Just one rib"?" H-E double hockey sticks NO, Give me the platter!" Truly the food of the gods. The corn bread tastes like cake. Prepare for a culinary delight like no other!
Good Stuff!!

This is a great little find in the Antelope a rea - really great customer service, they really take care of their customers. Whether you dine in or do take out, they are generous with their portions and can always make recommendations if you're not sure how much to order to feed your party. This is down home barbecue, if you want the good stuff, this is the place. My husband is from Texas and he's quite the bbq critic - he loves their food!
- Pros: pork ribs, tri-tip, chicken
BBQ done right
by adeala at Citysearch
We got fall-off-the-bone tender pork ribs (with your choice of mild or hot BBQ sauce) with generous servings of side-dishes all served by a very helpful staff. Obviously a family owned business that they are very passionate about. Try the sweet potato fries for a change of pace from ordinary french fries!
- Pros: Friendly, generous portions
Is this corn in my bread
by north_sac_jw at Citysearch
I come here pretty often as it is convenient when picking up kid from preschool. The Tri-tip is excellent, the chicken fals from the bone.
The sides are so-so and the cornbread is odd to everyone who has ever been here. But originality does have its place. My kid loves the stuff.
- Pros: tri tip, chicken, snapper
- Cons: any sides, corn bread
