Try Mukini's or Momiji's in Downtown Sac instead. Horrible Customer Service.

This restaurant was horrible. We saw our waitress maybe once, couldn't get even a refill on water, 30 minutes to get a Teriyaki plate that was bland and had a lot of fried breading with no meat in it. When we tried to send it back we were told that it tasted great, had nothing wrong with it and could not have something else. The manager was rude (not to mention covered in tatoos and piercings) and left us in a bad mood for our musical we were going to see. We were appalled at the lack of basic manners in a manager no less. Maybe she was just having a bad night but don't take it out on your customers if you want them to ever come back.

• Pros: Rolls came out quick and were ok
• Cons: Teriyaki was sooooo slow and bad customer service

Sushi at Zen

I love Zen T. They make the best sushis and they know how to please their customers satisfaction and their soy sauce are bomb. It just tastey with rice and sushis.. I love that place. As much as I like Kru Zen I the best of the best. Wink*

THE BEST!!! So glad the chefs from Taka's are back!!

I used to eat at this restaurant when it was on S street...and called Takas. Now Zen Sushi is operated by the same chefs but in a different location. I must tell you...I have lived many places..including Seattle, and the bay area. (both are known for great sushi) This sushi is some of the best out there....especially for being in the Sacramento area.

One thing you must keep in mind...Sushi is a different experience. Its no Ruth Chris steakhouse. Its not Posh. Sorry... if thats what you expect. You cant expect to make a reservation and get right in. Its slammin on the weekends at Zen!! geez...actually its slammin almost every night. BECAUSE ITS GOOD!!!! You have to know a GREAT sushi place for what it is: GREAT SUSHI!!

Yes, it is a little cramped. Yes the servers will leave you hanging for a little bit on a busy night. BUT THE SUSHI IS TO DIE FOR!!!!! Some great rolls to try are: The City roll, the Jason, the fong & fong...and my ULTIMATE FAVORITE: THE volcano!!!!!

Please dont listen to these people with their stories of their kids...and the wait...and the rude servers. This place is absolutley worth any of that stuff...and its not always like that. and its NOT THAT BAD. if you just know that good sushi is not a 5 star gourmet style restaurant. its sushi...real sushi....not fake california mikuni sushi. oops....did i just say that out loud?

TRUST ME !!!! GO TRY!!!!! Its awesome

• Pros: THE SUSHI!!! thats all you need
• Cons: servers are very busy, there is sometimes a long wait, place is small

Please don't be confuse about 'Zen-toro' and 'Zen sushi ' that is different restuarant

Zen - toro that owned by Masa has closed business since 1 st August .

and changed to ' Zen sushi ' ( formely ' Taka ' ) move from 18 & S street .

of course ,the food and service style are totally different .

.

I don't know the reason why the new owner named the restuarant almost like the old one.

Many customer got confused from that,

also Citysearch website still didn't change info about Zen toro , right now There's only 1 Zen toro in Davis .

So. the customer that complain below please understand too . now Zen toro wasn't on 15 & I street anymore . I feel really bad if I found word ' bad service ' on Zen toro page , I used to work at Zen toro, and I love this place so much.

HORRIBLE customer service; very good food

The customer service here is absolutely horrible and down right rude. We made reservations and were not seated until one hour and 15 minutes after our reservation time. The seating is also very cramped; your seat is inches away from the patron behind you at another table. The only thing this place has going for it is the food. However, we were treated so poorly that its not ever worth going back for. There are plenty of other sushi places in town with excellent food and customer service that encourages repeat business.

great sushi conventient downtown location

i have eaten at zen toro on more than a few occasions and it is a great sushi place it is pretty convenient for people who work downtown and the food is always good

I was a little confused by the other review that was written by the person with the 4 kids that said that the service and attitude etc was terrible ... well one thing that that person should remember is that sometimes kids do not belong in some restaraunts and most of the time it is on a case by case basis ... as we all know kids can sometimes be a handful and are hard to control and are naturally easy to excite etc ..but hey if your kids were being loud and were a nuisance to the rest of the patrons that I must agree I would be apologizing to the other patrons that were leaving...

who knows the customers that were leaving may have been leaving because in part of the noise of the kids???? Believe me I am a very patient person but I too have made a quick exit when kids are a little out of control and the parents are not showing any concern just taking the "kids will be kids" attitude ...

Anyways as you can see the Zen Toro ratings are very high .. do not be concerned about service or attitude or food quality...all are excellent!

Terrible Services for Moms with Kids

Our family has enjoyed this restaurant very much since Davis branch opened some monthes a go. Their food is good and srvices are used to be good. However, they changed their attitude when only MOMS and KIDS were presented in the restaurant at Davis branch..

They never tried to serve us, even did not ask if we needed high chairs...they have seen we had 4 kids..

The most unpleasant experance at the time was they shouted to other customers going out "Sotty for NOISE".. presumably they wanted us to hear and not to come there again..

Anyway, we have experienced the worst thing ever in our lives... We think taste and flavor are not all for restaurants.. good services and friendly environment where customer can enjoy their food are more preferable for restaurant.. Thinking about these, Zen Toro would be the restaurant we SHOULD NOT GO.

The Best Japanese food in town

I have tried sushi before at other places and never really had a taste for it until I had Zen Toro sushi. Now I cant get enough of it. I can understand some of the bad experiences written on the reviews... even I have been somewhat disappointed with their service, but that will never keep me away from the yummy sushi. They also have great dinner entrees for people who don't eat raw stuff... oooohh and they have a large selection of sushi that doesn't have any raw stuff in it. Soooo Goooood. It is the only place I will ever eat sushi!

but it could not have been Zen Toro.

It IS the best sushi in Sacramento. My husband and I have eaten here on many occasions and have never had a bad experience. The food is always delicious, service prompt, and the atmosphere delightful. They regularly update the menu, adding new and experimental rolls - things you don't find anywhere else in Sacramento. In a city practically over run with sushi restaurants, Zen Toro is the one constant and reliably yummy one. =)

I highly recommend this establishment. You will not be disappointed.

best sushi in sac!

this is my favorite restaurant in sac! i live in NYC now and everytime i am home, this is one place that is a must!! the sushi is wonderful and so affordable as is their menu. i have yet to find a place like this in NYC, where all the sushi is not authentic and way overpriced! i have loved every dish at zen toro and crave it when i'm not in sac!!
